The All-Nations, accompanied by their
added attraction, "Broom" Donaldson of
strike-out fame, nosed out the Store
Triumphs in a thrilling finish at Rourke
park Saturday. Score: 6 to 5.
The victory was mainly due to their
timely swatting. However, the battle
might have slipped fr.om the visitors'
grasp but for the timely entry of the
raw-boned darky who stopped the brew
ers In their tracks. ' Bradford's men
were beginning to get their . bearings
when Donaldson took the mound and
stopped the rally by fanning five men
In a row.
The All-Nation roster has been greatly
strengthened since the team's last visit
here. . Their recent acquisitions, Ji Hull
and Blatney, were a great factor In
yesterday's game. "Pick" Brockmaii,
an Omaha, negro, handled himself well
at short for the visitors. "
The Store plainly exhibited the effects
of a long rest during the opening part by
their inability In solving Wabum's de
livery. The Mexican twirler had the
locals at his mercy until the sixth, when
"he began showing signs of weakness,
finally being replaced in the seventh.
Chamberlain's Start Poor.
I "Buzz" Chamberlain got a poor start
in the Initial round and had hardly
realized what had occurred when the
All-Nations chased,-three, runs across
the platter. In the next five Innings the
game was a pitchers' duel, with Wabum
having a slight edge over his opponent. ,
Hull opened the sixth for the visitors
with a Texas leaguer, was sacrificed to
second by "Pick" and rounded the Bases
on Crow's Bwat While the" brewers were
tolling under a severe handicap they
stirred up things in their half of the
sixth by scoring two on a ' couple of
hits and a dropped throw by the female
lirst-sacker.
Three successive hits resulted In two
scores for the mixed tribe in their half
of the eighth. Nothing daunted, Brad
ford's boys saile4 up into the fray with
intentions to win. Their Intentions fell
short and they were unable to overcome
the lead. . ' '
Get Tjvo In Eighth'. ;
Lawler secured a pass In the eighth,
Graham forced "Coal 01! Ed,? Durkee
lined to "Pick" at short, Drummy's two
sacker shoved Graham at third. On
the first ball pitched to Welch, H. John
hit one over the right field fence that
went foul by a couple of feet His next
attempt resulted In a safe one, scoring
Graham and Drommy. Washburn passed
Dougherty. At this stage Captain
Reeves called "Broom" Donaldson In and
he whiffed Minikus. In the next Inning
he fanned four, Clair being safe when
the third strike sailed over Reeves'
head. . -
Today the same teams will clash. Don
aldson and Olson will oppose each other.
