Omaha' In Dancer, Slarcna An-- tony Hall DcllTering Ball In Firat Claaa Form. I With 6,700 real ' live booaters of both j sexes arging them on to victory,, PA Rourke'a athletes hammered two Denver pltchera all over Rourke field and took the game by a ( to 1 score. And while the Omaha bunch was walloping Denver the lowly Antelopea were trimming St Joseph, and by such virtue Omaha Jumped Into first place. At no time during the game was Omaha in danger and Marcus Antony Hall was delivering the goods from the box with all kinds of stuff and to the immense delight of the fans. The Grizzlies managed to ! get men on bases in nearly every inning, j but they could not hit Hall when they needed the hits most ' Omaha took the lead In the second in ning. Kane doubled and scored on Nle hoff s IdoubleV In the next inning they put the game on Ice. With two down, a i single, a double and a home run, the latter by "Home Eun" Johnson, scored I three runs. The Cubs got their only run ! in the eighth on two singles and an error. It was a game full of life and Just suited 1 the big bunch' of boosters assembled. The j Rourkes took all kinds of daring chances when on bases and got away with them. That there was a large crowd present 1 goes without saying. The women were allowed Into the grounds and grandstand : free and began arriving at the park about 1 2:30. o'clock. Along about 3 o'clock the members of the sterner sex put in their appearance and when the game was called at 4 o'clock every available seat, outside of the boxes and bleachers, was occupied. And the crowd was the representation of Omaha business men and of society, i Among some of ' the big business men present were: Gould Diets, Hal McCord, j Clement Chase, Rome Miller, William I Byrne, W. T. BoVke and hundreds of 'others. JjJvery member. of the city'com ! mission was present :.' f- Johnson's home run In the third Innnlng was thevbig feature of the game andrcame- iwhen Thomason was on bane. . The big backstop' caught the ball square on the jnoso and lifted It over the left field j boards. Pandemonium reigned for sev eral minutes and the heavy slugger was given an ovation. In the second inning Kane opened with a double and scored on Nlehoffs double. With two down in the third, Coyle beat out a bunt and stole second. He went to third on" Spahrs -error and scored on Thomason's, double .to , left. . Johnson flammed the ball over the fence, scoring Itwo runs. Block beat out a bunt In the eighth and went to second on French's Infield hit: Lindsay sent one to Nlehoff, who 'threw wild to second to get French, and Block scored. Score: OMAHA. . AB. R. H. O. A. Pa's boys obliged In order to please the ladies and the boosters. Howard H. Baldric e was on hand wear ing a brand new straw lid. Ten of the Grizzlies had to be' content with a left-on-base chalk mark. Marcus Hall whiffed six of the terrible Grizzlies during the nine innings. .Seven two-baggers were . clouted out but Johnson's homer put them all in the shade. Even the welcome sign on Farnam street was lit up last night with the words" "Base Ball." Bertie Nlehoff scampered - across to within ten feet of first base in the third frame and caught a high one off Spahr's bat. French was Denver's mainstay when It came to slamming the ball. He got a safe one every time up, a total of four. And Quillin continues to growl and snari like a typical "bear cat" when strikes and balls do not adhere to hjs matter of thinking. Mayor Dahlman sat In a box and yelled like an Apache, when Hickory Johnson slammed the sphere over the left field beards. v The Commercial club boosters whooped it up, drank lemonade and pop, and threw peanut shells about the boxes with Berghammar, ss Miller, cf Cobb, rf McCormick, If ,. i-uie, in ....
