CHANGED LINEUP WQBKS WELL Qoarkes Plir ' Errorless Fielding - Game Make Foor Sacrifice Hits Work the Hit and Run to Perfection. ' Harry Hicks, the Rourki-s' little south paw, came into his own yesterday, prov ing a problem for the Lincoln Antelopes, After the first Inning ,h let the Salt Creekers down with but one hit, while his teammates ran up a total of eight tallies. Score: Omaha, 8; Lincoln, 2. The little sldewheeler did not hit his stride during the first frame. A single, a double and a triple, with one stolen base, scored two big ones for the 'Lopes before Hicks retired the side. From that on he was never In danger and was stingy with his bits until the eighth, when Carney cracked the ball down the first base line for two bags. . The Rourkes went on a rampage while Hicks was pulling off his stunts. Twelve base hits for a total of fourteen bases was Omaha's share. Joe Doyle was bat ted to all parts of the Rourke field and when he was not being clouted for safe ones his teammates were making; errors. The Rourkes' first four runs were the result of errors, ' ' Sapport Faaltlesa. 'Although Hicks pitched gilt-edged baU, his support was faultless. ... Not an error was chalked up against any one of the players, and hair-raising plays saved the little fellow from being, hit oftener, : Nlehoff killed what looked like a per fect hit in the second. Carney bunted. Kiehoff came In. scooped the ball' up with his throwing hand, and while on the run made a perfect heave, getting Carney just before he "touched the corner sack. T homason saved Hicks a lilt and pre vented two runs tq the eighth.'. With Mc Cormick on first Cole slammed the ball to the left center fence. Thomason started with the crack of the bat and caught the liner as Cole Was turning sec end and McCormlck crossing the pan. Running with the ball, Thomason made a beautiful spring, picking the pill out of the air a few inches from the fence. Owing to Injuries to Kane, Bcanlon played first base and "Skipper" Schlpke held down the middle bag. Thomason was switched - from center to left and Davidson took Tommy's place. The change had the desired effect The Skip pet put up a pretty game, getting two hits in three times up and scoring three of the runs, besides taking four chances at second without a boot Bcanlon took sine chances without a bobble. Antelopes Start Fast. The 'Lopes started aa if they Intended to cart the game away in the opening rpund. .After Berghammer had gone out, Davy Lloyd singled to left and stole sec ond. Cobb sent the pltl down the third base line for three bagl and Davy scored. McCormlck doubled to left and Cobb tallied. The next two batters were easy OUtS., . ... ' . , f Justice opened for the Rourkes with a single to center. He stole second, went to third on Coyle's sacrifice and ambled across the plate on a sacrifice fly to McCormlck by Thomason.' In the fourth the Rourkes took the lead. Thomason reached first when Mullen dropped his little pop-up. Johnson sacrificed., Bcanlon was an easy out, Barbour to Mullen. Schlpke singled to left scoring Thomason. Nlehoff put the Skipper on third with a single to right. S'tehoff stole second and both men scored on Barbour's error when he made a poor lliiow to Mullen on Davidson's easy gwiimder. f; Mcaalon Caaght appls. -. On arriving, there King George and Queen Mary embarked on the royal barge, which was brilliantly emblaxoned with red and gold and man ned by the king's watermen In their liveries of centuries ' ago. Their ma jesties then proceeded! down the course to the royal stand, from which they watched the final heats of the British acquatle championships. - Beautiful weather favored the occasion In marked contrast to the' days which preceded and the scene on the river was one of brilliance, with gaily decorated house boats, more modest nunts. skiffs and canoes lining the course", aU their occupants in lightest of summer attire. During the afternoon the royal party proceeded the full length of the course and received a most hearty welcome. The barge used today was built by order of 'King William III for Queen Mary in 1689 and Is on of the oldest vessels in England. It was used for many years to convey the English kings and queens between their royal resi dences at Greenwich and Westminster.
