It boasts of franchises In seven citlos Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, New York, Brooklyn. Jlullnii (Pu.l, Ulchmond, Washington and appeals from Chicago, Haltlmoic, Philadelphia and Buffalo, The promoters, who are total ptrnnkcrs in bas ball, havo sites already loealed in tome cities, but nobody else has been able to locate them. Magnates think players seeking salary Increases are agitating this bluff. perhaps so; we cannot think of u better explanation. Hut they cannot l- very shrend piayeif. It would take se eral million dollars .seven or eiiiht, we should say, to jilunt Mich a league In I eltfht. cities before even a' player ia. bought. That is one little Item that does not lend substance to the story. Money Is not so "easy" Just now that capitalists are anxious to finance kg doubtful an enterprise as a thlid major league since In the last few months relations and conditions have so shaped themselves fs to remove the immediate demand If one existed, for such an organization. The compromise reached between the majors and the American association set tles the provocation that threatened ari Invasion and it is not so easy to find (mother to take the place In n day. N'or is It at all likely or evident that any num ber or players will follow the call of this siren voloo now, not with the echoed of Mr. Fletcher's wolf cries still rinsing In their ears. Conversation money doe not look good to a youth with a real pay check. If the magnets are correct in assuming that this is u players' trick, It must be a very few very short sighted players. " Well, the AA boys are through. They have returned from the war with the pelts of victory dancing at their sides and if they are satisfied, then all we have ,to say Is they are easiljr contented. For, aside from the name, what have they? One thing, they have the privilege of pay ing more for drafted players, which, with their other concessions, will call for higher salaries paid by them. Per haps the AA leagues, which are wedged in between the class A s and majors, can cash In their nominal advancement for enouBh to offset the other factors. If so, then so much the better. The West ern and Southern of the class A, it seems to us, camo out of tha shake-up all right. Hereafter they will get 1,500 in stead of Jl.OWfor a player taken by draft. While It really seems as If the whole thing ended satisfactorily, it nevertheless becomes a fiasco so far as the American association in concerned because, of the hubbub Tebeau and one of two created in advance with their threats. They may have got all they needed, but it is very little as compared to their big talk for a year or two. With reference to Miner Brown s talk of leaving the diamond to enter business It in worth noting that the miner s con tract with the Cubs expired last fall and Is not yet renewed. It is hardly fair to assume that he will sue any better pitch ing days. Hut whether llurphy can bo scared or whether the old rescuer would attempt to aenre him Into submitting an improved contract or one as good us Mordecai hud, we wouiu not tay. Two old tlm.i major league Mars are to bo prceeu back, into service, this year Kid Oleascn by the White 8ox and Monte Cross by the Ilrowns. They are to coach and help youm? players and the inanagers-Callahan anl Wallace. ;iea hon will wear the title of assistant man ager. The scheme is a good ono. Pa Rotirke la heartily' In favor of IU getting Into the Western league again this season. Pa said: "t would like to see Wichita ct back Into T the next league season and I don't think there Is any doubt but what they will. If a downtown park I secured In Wichita, it will be one ot the beat towns In the league, as they have tho right kind of boosters In that place.
