What change has happened to the na
tlon? For the first time since entering
nn observatory, when a comet has been
visible to the unaided eye. I have not re
celved letters from fear-harassed per
sons whose reason wa tin the verge of
overthrow, or really Insane. Will there
be floods? Fir? Oreat railway or steam
ship accident? War? Epidemics? Death
of ruler? Heavy coast wave? Karth
qunkes? And will the world come to ao
cud? No one ho far In 1911.
Without doubt the cessation Of the
stock uestlons Is due to the spread of
astronomical knowledge. Nearly ail large
newspaper and magazines now contain
agronomical article, as well as articles
on other sciences.
After the vanishing of Halley's comet,
und Its withdrawal to a distance so great
that the largest telprameraa and most
sensitive platca cannot detect It, a number
of small wanderer came to enliven
astronomic, times. The position given

Max Wolf of IMdelberf, on June 19, 11)11,

On July C, Astronomer Kelsa discovered
a comet In Hunt ascension 4 hour 62

sky correspond to longitude on earth,
and declination, distance north or south
from the celeatla I equator to latitude

longitude Is reckoned east or west of a

at great Inclination 141 degrees to th
