a liberal proportion of desirable beef,
both cornfeds and rangers. Demand from
packers waa vary good for the good to
choice grades and prices were steady to
a shade atronger than yesterday, while
on the medium and common kinds the
Inquiry was rather Indifferent and prices
"t better than steady. Supplies so far
this wsek have been pretty much the
sam as a week ago, and while th beet
demand Is not at all keen there Is enough
competition from the feeder buyers to
force packera to pay steady to atrong
prlcea for anything that thay really want,
with so much medium and common beet
In sight, however, the market is nat
urally slow on these Brads, although
value are holding up fairly well under
the circumstances. Compared with a
week ago desirable beef steers ar a
dim or lOftioe higher, while th medium
and common grade ar selling vary little
better than at that time.
There was a broad Inquiry for cows and
heifers and prices ruled strong for any
thing at all useful In thla Una Both
outside butchers and local packers had
liberal orders and lost no time in getting
down 'to buslnsss. When it cams to ths
medium and common grades th liberal
supply naturally produced a rather weak
feeling and th trend to values was
easier.
There was a fair degree of activity and
life In the stocker and feeder trade, and
th liberal offering movd freely at
steady to strong prlc. . Country de
mand haa been vary good this week and
the volume of business fully as largo aa

estimate caled for fully 65.000 had. mak
ing a three daya" total of 137.000 head.
This marketing, while far ahead of ex
pectancy, also finds eastern mutton cen
ters filled to capacity and for the first
time this teaaon the task of making
clearances Is becoming vsry difficult.
Packers took little interest In the open
ing trade as killing gangs all had heavy
reserves to keep them busy, resulting In
a sluggish demand and a slim business.
Really good fat lambs started out around
I6.40fi.6.60 and the beat kind possible
would do wall to reach 15.76. In most
rsspects It was a dims lower market,
but the price-list proved very uneven and
no flat decline can b quoted that Is
applicable to Individual salss.
Fat shsep showed equally poor action,
and shared to some extent In th break,
despite the fact that prices wsre already
low enough to be attractive. Toppy ws
had to more at 13.24 and leas While
strictly cholcs wethers were non too
popular around 13.50. The fsw yearling
that arrived drew bids on both sides of
the 14 00 mark.
Country demand for feeders appeared
backward and Inadequate. Most of Uto
new ottering were lacking in flesh, of
course, and with a atals supply ot about
8.000 head to work off, th market aoted
very droopy. Good feeder Iambs, with a
fair top. were wanted only at f4.35460
and less, and tt would take A pretty
fleshy bunch to land at t4.toU-4-75. Light.
Inferior grades sold st any old price,
ranging from t4.15 downward. Feeder
ewes moved largely Around tJ.2S&2.60,
plain classes getting poorest treatment.
