Holdredge, playing against Mrs. Dick Stew
art and Mr. C. T. Kountse Tuesday after
noon, won the most skillfully played and
hardest fought match held so far In the
women's tennis tournament at the Omaha
Field olub. Ttlls places Miss Chase and
Miss Holdredge as the probable winners in
the doubles, as they outclass any of the
other partners whom they may be pitted
against.
The nTatch brought four of the best of
the women player of the city together on
the courts and a gallery full of tennis play
ers and women spectator centered their
attention on the game. All four of the
women played In bettor form than In last
year' matches and every game was
closely contested, each side winning Its
own serve In most Instance.
Seeesd Set Hardest Foaarht.
Miss Cbase and Mis Holdredge won the
first set, 7-5, Mlsa Chase's forceful drive
being an Item to their advantage. In the
second set Mr. Stewart and Mrs. Kountse
won In the closest of the match, the score
being 10 to 8. Mr. Stewart played a safe,
olever game, with clever serving and good
ground stroke. This set wore on th play-.
era and physical endurance as well, as good
play won the third set for Ml Chase and
Miss Holdredge, 8-4.
The nip and tuck contest In the single
was played between Mis Helen Buck and
Mis McCreary, who literally wor each
other out, and after winning fourteen
games apiece were obliged to atop without
finishing the first set.
Mies Hortense Clarke handled her op
ponent, Mis Marjorie Smith, without much
difficulty, winning the match by 6-1, 8-3.
Miss Clark will meet th winner of tb
Buck-McCreary match In the semi-finals
Wednesday, and Mrs. Stewart will meet
the winner of the match between Mlsa
Holdreffe and Mlsa Zimmerman.
Thirteen Bat Casw Troable.
The arranging of the schedule for the
doubles caused no little consternation to
the young women In charge of the tourna
ment, sine there were thirteen set of
partners. One young woman frankly threw
up her hands in dlspalr with the exclama
tion, "It's Greek to me." The problem
was finally solved by arranging two sets
of byes, and Con Young aay that it will
come out all right
The women were thrown Into a flurry
Tuesday by three ambitious newspaper
photographers, who marched out confi
dently onto the courts to take snap shots
