The depressing feature of the corn trade
is the los of the rash premium, which
have existed for some time, but have de
clined faster than the futures, due to the
slackening of the shipping demand and
the run of heavy receipts.
There was an early break In wheat, but
shorts were nervous and covered free

Corn strenghened with the bulge In wheat
and a buying flurry early sent the prices

CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS
Keatores of tho Tradlngc ani Closlngr
Price Board of Trade.
CHICAGO, June 7. Scared short rushed
up the prloe of wheat today on discovering
that the market had been oversold. The
close wa strong. toHc to He higher than
last night. Final trading left corn KtC:
to lc higher, oats at TtfTlo to ltoc advance
and provision varvjns from a 6c decline to
a gain of 10c. There was lively action in
wheat both early and late. In the first part
of the session bearish sentiment developed
and offerings were on a large scale, with
demand only moderate. . Disappointing
cables, cooler weather and rains all com
blned to depress values. When short sellers
attempted to realise profits, however, and
found that the market was becoming bare
of offerings, pit feeling underwent a rapid
cnange. Bimuitaneousiy unfavorable re
ports were received from Nebraska and
Kansas City. A a result the buying flurry
was at a somewhat excited stage Just be
fore the crowd was scattered by the closing
gong. July ranged from 90c to 92t,c and
in the end wa strong, VaSo net higher at
tne topmost level reacnea.
Following the rebound In wheat, corn
made a decided upturn. July fluctuated
between ttttoc and 644ir64Tc, with the close
firm at 54c, a rise of Tc over last night.
Cash grsdes were in good demand. No. 2
yellow finished at Htoft64.c.
In oats there was a good deal of reinstat
ing done by former longs. High and low
figures for July were 37Sc and 36ac, with
the last sales VQUe up at 37Vfctf37He.
Conflicting Influences had an unsettling
effect on provisions hog were lower, but
grain was on the advance. The end waa a
wlndup unchanged to 10c higher for pork,
2too down for lard and 6c off to 5o up for
ribs.

NEW VORK. June 7. A spirited buying
movement toward the close of s dsv of
listless trading on the stock " exchsnge
caused a sudden advance In prices to a
point well above yesterday' close. Dur
ing most of the dsy the market showed the
effect of depression which set In esrly in
the week and stocks moved slowly within
a narrow range. There was a gradual in
crease In strength, however, and toward
the end of the day trading was the live
liest of the week.
The strength of the Hill stocks was so
pronounced as to attract much attention.
These' stocks row to new high prices for
the year following their recent series of
advances. Orem Northern preferred
gained more than three points and North
ern Pacific two. The movement gave rise
to reports that plans of grest importance
were under consideration by the manage
ment of these roads. The Erie Issues also
showed substantial gains throughout the
day. Cnlted state Steel showed the ef
fect of persistent pressure, although It
more than recovered Its loss In the final
rally.
Heavy buying of the Wabash-Pittsburg
Terminal bonds continued. The recent de
mand for this security haa been ao steady
of late as to evoke many surmise as to
Its source.

ro very noteworthy change took place
in the market for cow and heifer, and
as a rule about steady price prevailed.
A high as $5.86 was paid for a very good

There was quite a little sprinkling ot

ioo loads, offerings ranging from rough lard
to choice bacon quality. Karly uiintness
Mas uneven and doubtful, but sales usu

a dime decline. Trading finally settled
st a flat nickel loss ana bulk moved on
this basis. Heavies, in many Instances, suf
fered reaction of Hilly 6c, while lights ruled
a shade to barely five off at times.
Packers bought "by spells" and the ship
ping and speculative branches of the mar
ket were practically dead. Only a few loads
ot animals were bought by traders, other
thun packers, and tnese were needed for
actual orders.
Spreads between various weight wid
ened somewhat as the result of discrimina

were produced. Heavies sold around $5.7tKd
6.75, with good bntchers at or near $5.80.
Choice bacon animals reached $i.tifi, a top
that Is Identical with yesterday high
