April 1. 1911. There are good arguments on both sides of tne wneut t-ltuatlon. The Important de crease in the visible supply during the past few weeks, the sharp reduction In stocks in the northwest market and liquidation by holders has been extensive, these are the things buyers rely on for help In ad vnming allies Bears feel confident be cause of the outlook for a bumper winter wheat crop, with the chances of free Can adian wheat and the absence of cash wheat demand to take care of the surplus supply. I he shipping demand for coin has Im prned. The country Is offering little corn and ssh handlers predict the supply will be light until the busy farm season Is over. There Is a feeling of confidence also because of the steadllv decreasing stocks The wheat market was weak and lower under pressure of selling throughout the session. News was entirely bearish and cash wheat was 4c lower. Corn ruled firm with cash stuff steady and tha demand active, which receipts con tinue small. Sentiment favors an advance In values. Primary wheat receipts wr 184.009 bu. and shipments were 490.000 bu., against re ceipts last year of 144,000 bu. and ahlpmenta of 811.000 bu. April 19. -There was plenty ot wheat for sale today on all the hard spots In the market. With excellent seeding conditions northwest and with a brilliant outlook In the winter crop belt, gains due to firm cables disappeared and latest prices were a shade to 'tiuVc under last nlzht. Corn finished at a net advance of -V&V- tu Vc&V, oats up and provisions less costly by lOQaOc. A show of strength at the start in the wheat pit came as a result of Liverpool reports of firmer offerings from Australia, India and tha Argentina. There waa also at one tlm a rally because of export sales at Winnipeg. Neither bulge lasted, how ever. On the other hand longs displaced considerable anxiety to let go of holdings. Shorts, too. were eagerly on watch throughout tho session. The beara derived aome help also from the fact that primary receipts were leas than a year ago and on account of the poor cash demand. Mar ranged from 8:4(ftX9c, cloning firm at S8S 88V. a net loss of a shade. Corn worked upward In consequence of small receipts. May fluctuated between 49c and 50c, with last sales, H9Hc net higher at 47-,cOe. Cash grade were firm. No. 2 yellow cloaed at 50&.OV. Lightness of county offerings served as a prop for oata. STRONG SUPPORT IS OFFERED Report Spread I. ate la Day that . 4aatlal Baahlna" latereat Agree to Flaaare Road Geaerally Aeeepted. NFvT YORK, April 19-Wall street waa confused today bv the situation arising from yesterday's crisis In the affairs of Missouri Pacific, which constituted the chief Influence In the stock merket Un certainty as to the outcome of the disrup tion of the road's directorate and with drawal of the Kuhn-Ijoeb representa tives and vague fears of further compli cations gave rise to some uneasiness, but strong support which waa offered defeated attempts to depress prices. Missouri Pa cific was the strongest stock In the list, although a number of other Issues made good gains. Although the advance of Missouri Pa cific from 43S In January to 63 In Febru ary was based on the news that new In terests commanding the confidence of the financial world would resume control, defi nite severance of these relations brought no corresponding disturbances. The belief was general that discontinu ance of relations between the Goulds and the Knhn-Ioeb interests would not inter fere with plans for meeting; the financial requirements of the svstem. A report which was spread let In the day that substantial hanking Interests had agreed to take up the responslbllltv of financing the road met with general ac ceptance, th more readily because th bankers mentioned In that connection are known to be Identified elosely with the Rockefeller Interested It was assumed that these new interests were Induced to enter Missouri Pacific on account of the large Rock feller holdings and that hereafter the road might be known as much a Rock efeller as a Gould property. indications were not wanting today that the market was oversold as a result of the bearish activities of the previous two flays Short selling at the opening In duced no liquidation and the supply of stocks was noticeahlv smaller. There were few variations In prices until the last hour, when the bears made n final drive. The market wavered and broke, but was supported as promptly and effi ciently as In the morning. Stocks rose quickly to the best level of the dav. Mis souri Pacific making a net gain of 24 and other Issues showing substantial advances. Reports from the steel trsde were lees cheerful. Pittsburg reported seversl fur naces had been closed within the last few days. The weekly review of the Iron trade forecasts lower prices for Iron. l.ondon again bought stock freely In this market. Mexicans were higher In I.ondon on more cheerful advices as to th out look. ' Bond were Irregular. Total sales, par value. $2,252,000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. With the exception of that day, however, today's run Is the largest of the month to tate. 1 his brings the total tor me three uaya up to 14.900 head, which la alight ly larger than for the same period last week and slightly ahead of the ssme time last vear. The receipts again consisted very largely of beef steers, there being among die olferinga si me right good cattle. Aa haa been the case every day for more than a week back stock cattle and reeders wer the first to sell. This Is due to the tact that very few cattle of that descrip tion are coming and that the demand Is mora than equul to th aupply. The few cars in sight this morning met with very ready sal at good, firm .prices. Whll .here Is a feeling that stick cattle and etders are too high as compared to killers, till so few are coming that buyers hav been unable to force any lower rang of Pf'ces- . , ,. . Beef steers were very slow and dull and it was after midday before anything like ti clearance waa effected. Prices ei-e at least 10c lower than yesterday, with heavy cattle the slowest and dullest sellers ana with prices on that kind a big 10c lower. Cows and helteis were In larger . supply than for some time back and as they have ueen selling relatively high compared to ..eel steers buyers took advantage of the ituatlun to pound prices down more nearly n Hue with their ideas. Th result was not. aside from the best light heifer, chlch were close to steady, the general . tin of cow stuff was Wo lower and very iov even at the decline, uuotatlona on cattle: Good to cholc ,,eef steers. $0.1043.25; fair to good beef tui-s.
