CATTLE Receipts of cattle continue
large, the run again today being 201 cars
which was very heavy for a Thursday.
This brings the total for the four days up
to 21,700 head, the largest for some weeks
back and larger than a vear ago.
With so many cattle on sale It was not
surprising that the market on fat cattle
should show more or less weakness. Here
and there a salesman who happened to have
handy light cattle, just the kind that
packers wanted, thought that he did not
have to take off very much as compared
with yesterday. On the other hand heavy
cattle were safely 10c lower and most
salesmen were quoting the general market
as slow to 10c lower than yesterday.
Cows and heifers were also slow sellers
and they were generally quoted around a
dime lower. The. trade, as was tne case
with beef steers, was slow and it was late
in the morning before very much business
had been transacted.
The supply of stockers and feeders was
not overly large and considering how late
It Is In the week the market was in a lair
condition. As a rule desirable kinds did
not show very much change as compared
with yesterday, but still the tendency was
little weak, as the country demand was
not too urgent

NEW YORK. March 9. COFFEE
Ruvers of sheeD and
made some amends this morning for
slumpy prices Tuesday and Wednesday. A
general advance of 10c was allowed, lim
ited supplies and an active demand pro
ducing reaction. Clearance was early and
complete.
Handy grades of sheep attracted Keenest
competition and sold on much the same
basis as similar offerings at last week s
clone. Ewes, fairly good, moved at $4.80,
Indicating an extreme quotation of $4 60 on
something strictly choice. Wethers
reached $4.60, a sale that crowds the limit
in this branch Of the market. Yearlings
were popular and went at a creditable
spread of $5 on. $5.15 and $5.35. Heavy and
rough yearlings moved at small margins
under the $5.00 mark.
Ijimbs are closing around a quarter
lower for the week, Monday's advance, re
cent declines and today's strength enter
ing Into this comparison. Choice lambs,
still in the fleece, would probably sell at
or near $5.90 at present, while actual aalea
on Monday reached $6.20. Various weights
of good lambs brought $5 66, $5.75 and $5.80
this morning, the latter figure being high
price. Shorn strings are meeting with
much better treatment than during recent
weeks and the right kind of shorn lambs
are easily quotable at $5.25.
Summarized, local trade this week was
very uneven and generally bearish. Receipts
have been reasonably large and outside
conditions more or less discouraging. It
is usually admitted, however, that bearish
phases of the market are rather temporary
In their nature and It Is freely predicted
that the balance of the season's business
will have a healthier appearance.
Quotations on sheep and lambs: Good to
