When the employes of the Monteleone hotel receive their next pay envelope they are going to find enclosed a new service code which the hotel will adopt. The following extracts from It glva an excellent Idea of what will be expected from the employes In the futurs: "The Hotel Monteleone Is operated for the benefit and convenience of Its guests. "Without guests there could be no Hotel Monteleone. "Never be purky, pungent or fresh. The guest pays your salary aa well as mine. He Is your Immediate benefactor. OMAHA, Sept. 23 To the Editor of The Bee: I read the fine tribute to the Omaha schools and Dr. W. M Davidson. The teachers have a good reason to praise the Omaha schools, for they are the best paid In the country, with the least work. I notice that Dr. Davidson Is a strong ad vocate of another bonding of tho city for 1750,000. How about the home owners, who are losing their little homes by tax salesT Watch the advertised tsx sales. I do not know huw much the doctor pays to Omaha schools in taxes, but this Is sure; Tha only way for the taxpayer to break even and have anything for old age la tn either start a saloon, a church or school of soma kind to get out of taxes, like th busi ness colleges, and I would suggest an ucsdemy to teach milking a cow and rais ing chickens for both boys and girls. Wa have too much theory for our practical and bread-winning abilities. The school board has had its own way about long enough- It paid toOO each for twelve lota north of Fort street, that were selling two years ago for $100 to 1200 for the best one. and those the board bought no one wanted at any price. It Is easy to spend the peo ple's money and If there Is not a let up on mortgaging our homes by submitting th voting of bunds to the people who do not pay any of the tax, we will be In th same hoi w were twenty years ago, and thug set Omaha back ten years. HOME OWNER. The Modera Falling. It was Mrs. Forreeter In that ehsrmlng, quaint "Cranford," who acknowledged that she always confused "horisonlal" and "perpendicular," becaus "In her day th only us oeople made of four-syllabled words was to teach how they ahould be spelled." The present generation haa reversed th process; nowadays words ar more easily defined than spelled, and the recent story of a college graduate comes aptly to "point th. moral and adorn the tale." Miss Worthley was trying, unsuccess fully enough, to write letters In the rather noisy hubbub of a house party. At last ha glanced up with a worried air: "Oh girls; please do be quiet just a littles minute," she begged. "You've nearly made me ruin my letter. Juet see, I've actually written 'direct' with one r." Youth's Com panion. ,
