Franco-Prussian War. will hold its annual
meeUn? in Omaha August 31 to .September
i. Thi association consists of the ocicl'ts
of Omaha, South ..Omaha, Bennington,
Sarpy county, Hartlngton, West Point,
Hlldreth, Jefferson county, Hall county,
Platte county and Gage county, and the
gathering will bring approximately 3. 000
German soldiers', and sailors with their
families to Omaha during the assembly.
The business., sessions will he held at
Washington hall and will ope,i Saturday
evening with a reception tj the visitors.
Committees have .been appointed to re
ceive iho visitors at all inonlnf trains.
A short business session will be held Bun
day morning and (roru-12 m. until t p. ra.
luncheon will be served.
Sunday afternoon the visitors will be en
tertained at Krug park with a grand con
cert, and in the evening, beginning at 7
o'clock, will bo produced the military
drama of "A Soldier's Life," followed by
a camp fire, bivouac and a good time in
gerrral.
The business sessions will be resumed
Mondsy morning at 9 o'clock in Washing
ton hall and after luncheon a grand parade
of the visiting organizations will be given
through the principal business streets of
Omaha. Following the parade the visitors
will adjourn to Krug park, where a grand
concert and festival , will be given com

of the city council, held in City Electrician
Mlchselsen's office Wednesday morning, ths
city sttorney wss directed to give an opin
ion as to whether or not the city has a
vsltd claim against the local railroads for
ths cost of electric arc lamp which have
been maintained by the city along th
railroads' right-of-way. EJeven lamps ars
in dispute, and from now on the railroads
will have to maintain them if they ars
kept up. Members of ths committee) be
lieve the liability of the railroads extend
bsck to October, 1899, when an ordinance
wss psssed placing the burden on them.
There Is some doubt as to th validity of
this ordlnsnce, snd if it Is declared invalid
It is believed. tho city can still collect the
money expended sines September 29, 190S,
the date of a subsequent resolution on ths
