by over tl2.000.0O0. A rectification of this
glaring discrepancy In tomorrow's bank
statement Is probable. The progreaalve
easing of the call money market since the
pinch of Wednesday precludea the supposi
tion that the banks are near the limit of
their surplus reserves.
The I'nlon Pacific and Atchison bond Is
sues Were subject to continued dlscuslon.
The subscription warrants for the Union
Pacific bonds were listed on the Stock ex
change and after selling down to 89Vi, dis
tinguished themselves by an advance to 91.
at which cash Bales were made. As only
t4.Wi.ou0 of the t7!.000.0f,0 offered to stock
holders at 90 were applied for the source of
the new demand at a higher price was a
mystery. On the curb full paid aubscrip4'on
warrants sold as low as 87.. compared with
88. the syndicate subscription price. Some
of the stocks of corporations which are the
special target of government prosecutions
were weak, including the Interborough Met-
ropolltan stocks and the American Tobacco
group. American Snuff sold at a decline of
124 points from the preceding sale. The
determined abstention of holders of the
matured Cnited States 4 per cents from
presenting them for redemption Is a subject
of wonderment In view of current condi
tions, which show a scarcity of loanable
monev supplies and a practical famine of
Investment capital. The Inert attitude of
these bondholders is attributed In some aort
td a profound distrust of Investment con
ditions as they exist at present. One of the
subjects of comment was the expected pub
lication on Sunday of the findings of tha
Interstate Commerce commission on the
Harrlman Investigation. The Harrlman
stocks were firmly held during the day. The
stagnation of the market waa tta feature In
the latter part of the day, but the gains
were held to a firm closing.

CATTLE Receipts of cattle were ve)ry
light as usual on a Friday, and there w re
really not enough of any one thing on tale
to make a test of values. The receipts for
the week so far show a considerable giln
over lasl week, but very llttlo difference
from a year ago.
The few beef steers In sight this morning
sold quite readily ut good steady to stronger
prices. There was nothing choice anions
the offerings, but there were cattle good
enough to bring ti.30. The trade was with
out any noteworthy change or any especial
feature of Interest.
What few cows there were sold In about
the aame notches as yesterday.
There were no stockers or feeders to
amount to anything, but the feeling was
steady.
