and employes defeated the city officers
yesterday afternoon by a score of 13 to 10.
The game was played for the benefit of the
Young Men's Christian association and the
total receipts will reach 2140. County Clerk
Boe started to pitch for the county, but
as there were eight other pitchers, Janitor
Hoack, Supervisor Oleson, and Constable
Roy Cook were given a try out Police
man Henry Peterson started to pitch for
the city, but got tired - and Councilman
Knowleton, who used to throw a curve
years ago Umbered up and went In the
box for the rest of the game. Police Judge
Cook did the heavy hitting and Justice of
the Peace Laird also made the fielders do
some sprinting. Prof. Matson caught a
fly In the left field and Policeman UVerterlr-v
made a lively chase with the ball after
Deputy Treasurer Munday between third
and home plate, getting his man. The
victors claim to be able to beat any county

was decided here today. It was a return
match of the American Rhoades scholars
of Oxford against an all-London nine and
attracted a lew spectators, who, however
were keenly Interested. London started by
scoring three runs In the- first Inning. The
Americans were ahead In the third and
niatntalneS tholr lead to the end, winning
by 16 to 11. In the first match played at
Tottenham June 3, the score was Amer

The last day of the shoot of the Ne
braska Sportsmen's association was pulled
off under conditions of extreme difficulty
owing to the rain which poured down in
cessantly the greater part of the day. All
the scores suffered In consequence and
averaged lower than any day of the moot
The only redeeming feature was that the
weather was warm.
The last round of the state championship
event when Bray, Copsey, Holiworth and
Dworak were shooting off an exciting tie
of twenty-five targets, came near having A
fatal ending. Bray of Columbus accident
ally discharged his gun prematurely and
the charge struck the trap cover behind
which the boy who loaded the traps sat.
An Immediate howl of pain from the cover
sent tho crowd pell mell Into the rain to
see how serious the. accident was. Before
they reached the cover the boy emerged
with both hands clapped over the back of
his head, where It was found that two shot
from the charge had pierced Ms scalp until
stopped by the bones of his skull. He was
taken to the drug store at Thirty-Sixth and
Q streets, where he was attended by a
doctor. The Injury was slight The man
agement Is at a loss to account for the
penetration of the shot through the board.
Bray said the accident was due to the slip
pery gun barrel due to the pouring rain.
The boy's name was Walter Bucher and
he lives at the Omaha Gun club house In
Council Bluffs. Bray Immediately dropped
out of the contest
The state championship was won by
C. C. Holiworth of Juniata, In a contest of
twenty-five straight targets. Frank
Dworak waa second, breaking twenty-four.
Copsey was third, with twenty-tow. Bray
stopped at the nineteenth. There were nine
teen men in the contest The four above
tied in the first round, each breaking twenty-four.
The high man for the day was Maxwell
of Hastings, who broke 190 targets. A.
Oleson was second with 189 and Chris
Gottlieb tied his score. The finals for
the three days show the following results:

score she made. Her score waa 177; her
total score was 626.

NEW YORK, June 6.-Fllp Flap, showing
great Improvement over her last race,
easily won the Westminster handicap of
10,000 at Qravesend today. Bhe waa ad
mirably handled by K. Martin, who had
his first mount since his suspension at
Belmont park. Opening at 7 to 1 the money
began to show on Flip Flap and her price
dropped until at the close It bad reached
4 to 1. At the start Sir Toddlngton led
the field for half a mile, with Far West
second and Running Water, ths favorite,
third, a head before Highlander. Flip Flap
was back about an eighth.
When half a mile from the finish Martin
began to send Flip Flap up and at ths
head of the stretch was leading by throe
lengths with Philander second and Running
Water third. Lady Winifred backed down
from 4 to 1 to 9 to 6 favorite, at post time,
got a lead of six lengths at the start for
the Criterion stakes' and was never headed.
