Totals 41 8.371 807 CATTLE Receipts of cattle today were not large enough to talk about. For the week the receipts have keen about on a par with last week and slightly larger than a year ago, which means that there has been a good liberal run throughout the six Heer steers began tne weeg wun a isiriy active market considering the large receipts and continued In good shape until Wednes dev, hrn tiiere was a slight break. Dur ing tha last half of the week there has been a little more strength and activity to the trade, so that taking the six days as a wholo there has ntit been any very great change in tho market. As usual at this season of the year quite a good many good steers aro coming forward. Cows and heifers sold lower the' middle of the week, but huve Improved some dur ing the latter half, the market being quoted quite a little higher on Friday, so that at the close of the week the market is not very different from where It was a week ago. The coming week Is likely to witness a very small business In cows and heifers owing to the disagreement between pack ers and sellers as to the terms of sale. Packers are Insisting thot commencing with Monday all the stuff shall be sold subject to Inspection by the government In spectors. This means that account of sales and returns to tho country would have to he held by commission men until packers had killed out the stuff so that government Inspectors could pass upon It. As sollers do not believe such a scheme Is practical they are advising the country to ship no cow stuff of any kind until the disagree ment with the packers Is definitely settled. The renerul rains durlne: the latter half of he week giving promises of abundant pas turage had a beneficial effect upon the feoder trade. The demand was Improved and as receipts were very light prices ad vanced 1015c. Vlth continued good pros pects for crops as well as for pastures operators on the market are looking for a good trade in both stock cattle and feeders. HOGS Hogs sold 5c lower this, morning and, though the trade on the opening was slow, it. was fairly active as It warmed up and the most of the hugs changed hands In better season than usual. As will be noted from the sales, the hogs sold largely ot 3.95'(i4l.i5. whereas yesterday the bulk brought to.Otxj6.10. As high as fe.10 was puld for good light hogs, the top yes torday having been $6.16. Hug values have been steadily worklna- lower during the last two weeks, so that today the market touched the lowest point since November 14. The week opened with a decline, which was made up on Tuesday, but from that time on the market has been lower every day, tho close of the week being 2fc lower than one week ano and 40o lower than two weeks ago. Ths receipts for the week tiave been quits large, showing a decided gain over last weok, but still short of the rectard of a year ago. SHEEP Contrary to the usual rule, there were a few sheep here today, four cars of the A. H. Anthony ewes, lambs and Wethers being reported In. In spite of- the fact that It was a Saturday, buyers s -emed to want the ewes and lambs especially, so that they brought good, strong prices. The lambs sold at f7.,-0, with twenty oat at $7.00 as against $7.40 with forty out on Wednesday. The ewes sold at $6.ii0, against $5.70 last week, this being the highest prlco paid for western ewes so far this season. j ii wewiers were not in sucn senve no maud and did not meet with such ready sals. The reeelpts of sheep have been fait this week, being considerably larxer than for the corresponding week of a year ago. At the same time the demand has been very brisk and everything desirable has sold readily at gradually strengthening prices. 1 he market has been practically strong every day during the week and at ' the closn ran safely t.e quoted lf.J'jr.c higher than last week. There Is no question but what the supply of fed sheep and lambs Is protty well exhausted In territory trlb utary to this market snd there Is every reason for believing that fat stuff will con tinue to command relatively strong prices at this point throughout the balance of ths season.
