M CLOSREY TURNS THE TRICK
Leti Colorado Sprinjs Bluggen Town for
Two Little Hiti,
OMAHA WINS BY SLUGGING STIMMELl
Gnm Full of Ginger and Hard
Hitting by the Homa Tmib
Enjoyed by Small
Crowd.
McCloskey was too much for the Million
aires and that la the main reason for the
defeat of the Colorado Springs team at Vin
ton 8treet park Thursday by the score of 9
to 1. McCloskey and Welch shared the
honors of the day and were roundly ap
plauded on all occasions. Mac held the re
juvenated Springs team to two pearly hits,
one of which was a Texas leaguer that
Carter could not reach and which passed
him so that Btlmmell was able to reach
third, and was followed by a corking single
over McCloskcy's head, scoring Stlnimell
for the only run of the day for the Moun
taineers. Welch made two plays that
ought to put him In the hero or star class,
one a hard run nearly to second, which he
had to turn a somesault to catch, and the
other was hard drive against the fence.
And then, too, Harry made a corking
double In the first Inning, which brought In
the first score and which won him a new
hat to wear on his Journey to Sioux City, by
hitting the Black Kat which Mr. Black has
painted on the fence and which he dares
any one to hit on penalty of getting & hat.
After the Springs were blanked In the
first the Champs went right after them and
scored one In each of the first three In
nings. Theil walked In the first and was
sacrificed to second by Carter, as usual.
Dolan hit a high one, which Pennell nailed,
and then Welch made his famouB hit for
the hat and scored Thell. In the second
Slugger Bill, who earned his name for fair
yesterday, started with a single to left.
During the game Bill made four singles
and Just to show that he could place them
where he wished he put one right through
each opening of the Infield. He faced the
pitcher five times, walked once and hit
safely the other four, making a clean per
cent of 1.000 on the day. Martlp sacrificed
Schlpkn to second and Oondlng brought him
home with a single. In the third Carter
started wltn a safe blngle and he was
sacrificed to second by Dolan, went to third
on Welch's out from Knabe J,o Schrlver and
scored on Brown's safe clout past Knabe
to rightfleld. Skipper Bill's single that
followed was wasted.
Stlmmell's nd Finish.
Matters ran smooth enough for the
Springs until the eighth inning, when
eleven men faced Mr. Btlmmell, and six
runs were tallied on five safe hits, three
bases on balls, one man hit and one wild
pitch. Brown, the first man up, was an
easy out, but Slugger Bill got In his third
hit and went to second on a wild pitch.
Martin walked and Oondlng's double scored
Schlpke and put Martin on third. Mac flew
out to Knabe and Thlel was hit with the
ball, which filled the bases. Carter was so
persistent in getting a good ball that Mr.
Btlmmell finally gave him four wide ones
and forced Martin home. A Texas leaguer
by Dolan scored Oondlng and Thlel, and
Dolan was brought home by Brown's single
to right.
Except for Stlmmell's three-bagger and
base on balls to Delehanty, who stole sec
ond, no Millionaire was allowed to reach
second, which Is quite an achievement for a
youth like Mac. Omaha Is at .Sioux City
until the Fourth, when they will return for
two games on the noisy day. Attendance,

the first and a bad throw by Qulllln In an
attempt to double Randall with Hartzell,
going wild to Douglas at first, letting Hurt
sell In. Bohannon in the seventh hit for

Jackson Park Code Good Enough for
Korthenders,
Members of the Miller Park Golf and
Tennis club met Wednesday evening In an
open car at the Ames avenue street car
barns and discussed the pros and cons of
the new club. The membership list Is
booming and has a long line of good names.
It wus announced at the meeting that the
new club hud the endorsement In Its move
ment of both the Field and Country clubs.
It Iihs practical!) been decided to adopt the
rul s of the Jackson Park club of Chicago,
which Is similar to the new organization
in character. Mr. Grntton, president of the
club, recently has returned from Chicago,
where he Inspected the Jackson Park club
grounds, and says Miller park Is far better
adapted for such a club than Jackson park.
Representatives of the club appeared be
fore the park commission Thursday morn
ing und ask'd assistance In prepnrlng the
golf course. President Llnlnger told them
the commission had no money which could
be devoted to the purpose and that when
permission was given to the club to use
Miller nark It was expected the golf links
would be of no expense to the park board.
He Intimated, however, that the board
would do all It could with park laborers
without making a direct outlay for the
ptiroose. The matter was left in the hands
of Commissioner Craig and Superintendent
Adams.
