Lack of sunshine In Hie northwest was the principal cause of strength In the wheat market The opening ai a little better than yesterday's close. After a alight weak ening on heavy offerings of July a strong undertone developed which lasted all day. Juiy cloned at 90c, September at 8oc ani December at 86c. Corn was up on account of a firm demand and the strength In wheat. Country eleva tors sent In forty-one cars today. This Is about what has been coming, Chicago Mi cars, hut the larger part was for Immediate eastern shipment. July closed at 6tiV old July at fir, September at bic, old Sep tember at e574c, Iecember at sue and old December at 614ic. In sympathy with the general trend of the market oats were strong. There was about as much trading In December as In July. July closed at S2'c, September ut 314c and December at 324c. Liverpool closed with July wheat 4d lower, September unchanged and December 'fed lower. Corn waa 1 higher. Secretary Fowler of the Northwestern Grain Denies' association at Winnipeg has Issued his crop report, estimating acreage In Manitoba and Falrbury at 4,019,000 acres, compared with 8,420,X acres last, year, an Increase of 174 per cent. The condition of the. growing crop In Manitoba and the ter ritories Is first-class. It never looked bet ter, especially In the northwest territories. Some light damage haa been done In the Red river valley by too much rain. Cash sales of corn yesterday at Chicago were lSO.OuO bushels for domestic use and 50, rmo bufihels for direct export. Primary wheat receipts today were 281,731 bushels. Brad atreets' wheat decrease east of the Rockies is 1,753,000 bushels; total decrease, 8.852,000 bushels. New No. 2 Bold In St. Louis today at Hfcc, in Kansas City at Daitlc. "It will not take long to 111! up all the possible milling demands at current fancy premiums," said tho head of one of Chi cago's largest grain houses, according to today's Record-Herald. "I estimate that about 100,000 or 2u0,ooo bushels will fill up all the millers In the territory contiguous to Chicago until new wheat la available from the Immediate locality of Buch mills. Our orders nowadays for cash wheat are for minimum cars, the smallest available, to keep the mills going until their own wheat Is to be had. Michigan and Wis consin will have their own wheat to work on about a soon as the first wheat arriving here could be reshlpped them by freight." In a Chicago special to the Adams Uraln company J. A. Patten Is quoted as saying: "I can see nothing to prevent 60-cent corn. I do not see why Europe will not continue to buy right along until the Danublan crop Is ready next December. Country stocks In Illinois are cleaned out closer than they have been on July for fifteen years. I cannot Imagine where the next big run of corn is coming from. Wo have taken In 6,000,000 bushels of corn since May 1 and it Is gone now. There Is always a good demand for corn In September, but where It is to come from Is one of the problems 1 cannot study out." Omaha Cash Price. CHICAGO KRAI AMI PROVISIONS Feat a res of the Trading and Clnalna; Prices on Board of Trade, CHICAOO, June 27 Continued t weather In the northwest encouraged bull ish sentiment today In the wheat trade. At the cloee wheat for July delivery was up lfclUiC. Expectations of diminished re ceipts of corn were accompanied by aggres sive buying on the part of bull lenders and caused an advance of 24c. Oats show a gnlh of V'&'iiC. Provisions are practically unchanged. The wheat market showed greatest strength Just before the close, but distant deliveries bad a firm tone throughout the entire session. At the close, however, the July option was under considerable selling pressure and exhibited a week undertone. Additional rain In the northwest caused a firm opening. Initial quotations on July be ing up 4c to Sc at 90c to 9n4c. Septem ber was up 46 40 at K64'o'8f.e. Soon after the opening July weakened under Belling by pit traders, the price dropping to 894o. The cause of this selling pressure was ex cellent harvesting weather in the south west. The slump In July had only a slight effect on other months, September selling off to Mf&H4 v but quickly regaining the loss. Tho reaction was due to an active general demand. A strong market at Min neapolis was a further helD to bulls here. The Chicago market became Increasingly buoyant during the last half hour of trad ing, September advancing to S6'&W!sC. July soid up to 9074c. The mnrkct closed strong and almost at tee highest point of the day, with July at 9"c. Final quotations on September were at 864ic, a net gain of lSe. Clearances of wheat and flour were equal to 20,600 bu. The world's visible supply as shown by Rradstreet's decreased S.ftO.OuO bu. Mlnnea noils. Duluth and Chicago re sorted receipts of 212 cars, against ISO cars ast ween and iO) cars a year ago. Sentiment In the corn Dit was extremely bullish the entire day. A prominent com mission house was an active bidder anl tinder this leadership shorts covered freelv With comparatively small offerings prices were easily forced upward. Factor that contributed to the strength were firm ca bles and wet weather in many aectlons of the corn belt. An excellent demnnd for cash corn gave additional impetus to op tlonai trading. 1 he market closed un usually strong with prices practically at the highest point. July ojiened 440 higher at M-vut4o, old up to w4c and closed nt &6c. September opened un changed to tfec higher at MViS'. sold up to 65"itc and closed at the top. Local re ceipts were 912 cars, with 242 of contract grade. Strength In corn had a bullish effect on tho oats market. The volume of trading was quite large. July opened a shade lower to a shade higher at 324ri32Hc. sold be tween 32c and 32V and closed at 32c. September ranged between 304e and 31 4 f? 31'Hic, and closed at 314c. Local receipts were IMS cars. Provisions were steady, following a Be advance In the price of live hogs. At the close September pork was up 24c at $13,024. I-ard and rihs were each off a shade at $7.474rf7.50 and $8.00, respectively. Estimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat, 4 cars; corn, 372 cars; oats, 95 cars; hogs, H0 head. LEADERS DECLINE ON HEAVY SALES Atmosphere of Foreign Politics Is Decidedly Clearer and There is Heavy Haying- for For elvn Acoonnt. NEW IORK, June 27. Profit taking made more Impression on the stock market today than at any time since the specula tion first showed signs of revival early last week. The campaign for the advance was not abandoned by any means and opera tions to lift prices further were still con spicuously In evidence, but they were sniftlng to new quarters of the list and embraced stocks whose movements are not of such widespread sympathetic effect on the rest of the market. Meantime the prominent market leader In which the strength hitherto has centered were sub jected to selling to take profits. It would be difficult to sny how far the selling was promoted by any change In conditions and now tar merely as a result of the accrued profits on the advance hitherto. As the rise has gone on with trifling Interruptions for six days the profits to those who have nein stocas irom tne Dcginmng are at tractive. The atmosphere of foreign politic was decidedly clearer and there was a smart recovery on the Paris Bourse. There were considerable purchases of stocks here for foreign account, but with little effect on otir own market. With no available steamer sailing tomorrow, the question of further gold exports this woek was In abevance. Discount rates advanced, how ever, both In London and Paris, in spite of the relaxation of the political tension. For eign exchange rates here were only slightly lower on foreign buying of stocks, the gold engaged for export evidently providing no supply of exchange for the market. It Is supposed therefore that other cause than the friction with Oermanv are responsible for the Paris demnnd for gold, possibly preparation for a Russian indemnity loan. Weather conditions in the crop region were reported favorable to the crops today nd ennseouentlv favorable to values of railroad stocks, but the mixed complexion of the weekly bulletin of the weather bu reau served to confuse to some extent the nnnrlnslona over the cron conditions. MUCH stress continues to be laid on the prospects for dividend Increases by the conductors of the rresent speculative movement, as the appeal is designed to be made largely to those having the disposition of the pro ...a. nf the rnmlTip .Tnlv dividend and In the payments. The effort to continue the rise, however, proved unavailing and ne trn y,a nt the rtnv a definite ren.ctlon arv tendency was established, although et the enrlv advance made mixed showing of gains and losses for the 't5A nun B-enersllv stendv: total sales. nor niiif JS.9fln.noo. Total 8,360 13,054 6,870 CATTLE There was a lair run of cattle here today, about 158 loads being on sale. The quality of tho stuff was fair. Beef steers ronstlttued a good portion of the receipts today and there were some choice cattle offered. Buyers were out early, but were slow taking hold, and it was well along in the forenoon before any thing of consequence was done. Buyers were not anxious for supplies and there was no particular urgency to the demand. Trading all through tne morning was slow and dull, sellers miding it difficult to dis pose of their holdings. Prices, for the most part, ruled Just about steady, although there was a weaker tendency to the trade and some sales looked a shade lower. Packers evidently are still well supplied with beef and are not very active buyers. There was only a light supply of cows and heifers on Bale today and there was a better feeling on these kinds than on steers. Buyers were after the cattle and trading was fairly active. Prices ruled generally Bteadv on both good and common Kinds and a clearance was made In reasonable season. . , Bulls, veal calves and stags were In fair demand and prices were in about the same notches as yesterday.
