Burns of tne Col orado Springs Western league base ball team has thrown up t lie sponge. This an nouncement was otnciully maue tonight by Burns and Tip" O Nell, president of the Western league, who hurried here from Chicago this morning ut Burns' request. Bums says he cannot stand for a losing team and that all ellorts to strengthen the nine have been futile. He claims to have lost 16.000 on the team this year, but says it is no financial reason thai he gives the team up. The Colorado Springs team will be transferred to some other city, either l'ueblo or Lincoln, unless some public spiiited citizen comes to the rescue with funds to see it through before il leaves tomorrow lor its trip around the circuit. Otherwise the league will finance the team until some disposition is made of it. Presi dent O'Neil will take temporary charge , O'Nalll, ana will travel with the nine on the pres- PiS. p eut trip. Hums has bad teams fighting for tho pennant to the IhsI game for two seasons. This season the nine has been disorganised and has been losing with astonishing reg ularity. Tins has cut down the attend ance until the averuge for the season has not been above Jo0. The combination was more than Burns could stand and iie says he has washed Jils hands of base ball. He simply gives up the ghost and will let the league do whatever It pleases with the team He expects no financial remunera tion from whoever takes it. Colorado Springs has been In the Western league for five years and prior to this season the game has been well patronised. The locals won their flniU al-homu game today by a score of 10 to a in a sensational ninth-lnnlnc finish. Philadelphia Ontplnya Pittsburg; nt Every Point. PITTSBURG, June 15.
