SHORTHAND AND TYPEWRITING DEPARTMENT The efficiency of this de
partment has long been admitted. It Is progressive, thorough and up to date. Buit
ne.M men make constant demand upon us for stenographers who write Mosher short
hand, because they write It rapidly, read It fluently and operate a typewriter ac
cuiately. The public discussion held lat Mondav night for the purpose of making a com
parison of systems of shorthand was larg? ly attended nnd was unusually Interesting.
The following- were clear. y deinonsirate.l b y Trof. Mosher: 1. That Mosher Shorthand
In free from position writing, shade nnd various other Incumbrance found In other
sst ms. 2. That this system is better adapted to amanuenMs, work and court re
porting than any other. 3. That It run be written more quickly and read more easily
than any other. 4. That It has past the experimental stage and Is now used In many
of the largest business homes In Omaha by stenographers who receive the highest sal-
At the close of the discussion a rema-k able exhibition of speed writing was given
by Miss McCarthy, a student. She dem strated that Mosher Shorthand for speed
and legibility Is not excelled bv any other. A severe test of It was made, and the
fact that difficult matter was written at a high rate of speed and read bark with such
fluency and accuracy stamps it as a superior system. The following letter was i re
ceived the next day after the discussion from Mr. J. L. Cook, at present employed by
the Rees Printing company: ,
M. O. Rohrbough. Omaha Commercial College, Omaha, Neb.: Dear Sir Be ng In
terested In shorthand. I attended a public discussion held last Monday night at the
Omaha Commercial College. I waa psrtle ularly interested In the exhibition of writ
ing given by MI'S McCarthy, fine wrote at a high rate of speed and read her notes
accurately and rapidly. So marvelous was her work that I had some suspicion that
she was writing familiar matter. I therefore, on the following day. determined to
find out something more of her ability. I called at the college office and read to her
myself. I found she could write from 175 to 2"0 words per minute and read her notes
fluently and accurately. She never had seen what I read t. her, aa It was my own
composition and was of a nature that no ordinary stenographer would be able to
write at an average speed. She took this matter at 195 words per minute and then,
read It fluently. This certainly rp-aks well for the Mosher system.
With best wishes for your continued success, I remain, Joura truly
