"a a dor-tdediy Brtwr tone to the
rheat market today. Armour blng unqu
tlonably th factor of the , greatest Impor
tance, coupled with th rport substan
tiated hy stste and ovrnmnl reports of
the damage done through the drouth and
lies. an My. The latter ia not the potent
Influence for the deferred future. July,
which ahould display the greatest strength
n drouth reports, held steady at less ad
vance than either of the other future.
Tfnth December and May were firm spots.
The recelpta were modi-rate, but the de
liveries on account of December contrncta
were light, and this win the cause of much
of the uneasiness of the abort. Armour's
buying; was covered through broken not
heretofore prominent In his Interest, and
this failed to develop until late In the
session. Prlval wires Indicated a firm
position for wheat. IJverpool waa So
lower, but It cut no figure In the Amer
ican markets. Various reports were sent
nut as to the position of grain In farmers'
bands, ns shown by dispatches published
rl sewhere.
lasoemher wheat opened t;i higher
and advanced from 81.0N-X to $1.09! May
advanced from $1.0'i to $1.H; July, V4c
to 9c.
There Is an unquestioned disposition on
tne part of Omaha traders to get on the
short side, of coin. They csn see nothing
due snd look for a hreeik of considerable
Importance In the near future. There Is a
great Improvement In the quality of the
corn coming In. and with ten days of this
weather there will be plentv of No. 2 grsde
comlnv to this and the Chlcngo markets.
Deeeytber nuened at 48c. a loss of o and
recovered the decline snd 'c additional,
reacting to 48'io or slightly under yester
day1 figures. " rather alow and
barely steady at 46Hff454c.

CHICAGO GRAJ ASD PROVISIONS
Featarea At the TrasHa aad Cicala
Prlee Board ( Trade.
CHICAGO. Dew. 1 Continued trv weather
In trie southwtwt caused a net advance of
l'e In the price of May wheat here today.
The mark closed strong with prices al
most at the top. Corn and oats are prac
tically unchanged. Provisions are up 60
26c.
WlUi the exception of a slightly unset
tled tone at the start, sentiment In the
wheat pit today mi decidedly bullion
throughout the entire snewlim. Under the In
fluence, of lower price ftw wheat at Liver
pool, the market here opened barely steady.
May being a shade higher to 4'o'mO lower
at ll.09-44il.09S4. The weakness at Liver
pool was said to be due to liberal eel Ing
on favorable crop advices from Argentina.
Newa available here from the South Amer
ican wheat fields, h owever. was conflicting,
several reports claiming that wet weather
was Interefrrlng with hardest cperatlons.
Another bullish factor was the smaJl pri
mary receipts. Strength of caeh markets
at St. Ixiuis and Kanans City waa also sn
lnfluenc her. Throughout the day the
market had the support of the lenders of
the bull crowd. Price) reached the high
est point of the dav Just prior to the close.
May touching $1 1i. Final quotations on
May were at $l.liV4,fl.lV Clearance of
wheat and flour were equal to 116.800 bu.
Exports for the week, as shown by Brad
atreet', were equal to 2.101.000 bu. Primary
recelpta were 928.SW bu., compared with
1.0M.300 bu. a year ago, Minneapolis. Du
luth and Chicago reported recelpta of 7"5
cars, against 1.142 car last week and "59
cars a year ago.
Interest In the corn market was almost
entirely lacking and the volume of business
Was the smallest In manv week. Primary
receipts showed a big Increase, but local
recelpta were only moderate. Many com
plaints of corn curing slowly were recetvtd,
but thfae were nullified by lower prices at
sample tables. A steady tone prevailed
throughout the day. May opened unchanged
to a shade lower at 4.Sf?4SSc to 4t.Sc, s,ld
between 4.V4c and 4fS'6 46e and closed at
4f.e. Local receipts were 42S cars, with 1
f contract grade.
A firm tone was manifested In the oat
tnarkX. small recelpta being the principal
bull factor. Trading wa moderate, con
sisting mainly of changing from December
to May. After opening unchanged to a
shade lower at Slc to SPSlVic. May sold
up to 31'Mji31c and closed at 31H Local
receipts were 81 cars.
Considerable Interest was exhibited In
provisions and the volume of h,ustnea was
Quite largo. Higher prices for hogs wa
one of the chief Influences affecting the
market. Shorts were the best buyers. At
th close May pork was up 2oj2LV4e at $12 20

CATTLE There was not a heavy run of
cattle here this morning, even for a Friday.
The demand from local bujeis all the
wtek ha apparently besn In excess of the
receipt and as a result trading has been
active, with the tendency of price up
ward. Buyers were all out early this
morning and It wa not long before every
thing In sight wa disposed of.
Just a few bunches of short-fed cattle
. rrived this morning, and, while none of
them were what would be called good, still
packers took hold of them fairly well and
paid what looked to be strong prices.
There hnva been so few cornfeds on the
market this week that It Is hrd to tell
much about the relative position of prt ei i
a compared with a week ago. dui mm: 01
the trader agree that the general market
Is safely 10c to 20c higher than It was a
week ago on anything at all desirable.
Buyers were all anxious for western
range beef steers this morning, and, while
the quality of the offerings was common,
trading waa brisk, with prl'-es strong to
a dime higher, qunllty considered. It Is
noticeable that packers are now buying
a class of cattle which a short time ago
thev would not look at and which went
to feeders. The scarcity of good cattle
has forced them to buy the less deslrnb'e
grade In order to get enough with whl -h
to fill their orders. As compared with a
week ago the general market on western
rnngers Is lSdrslic higher.
The cow market was also active and
strong today, with some sales a little
higher. The supply all the week has been
too small as compared with the demand
and prices have movl steadily uoward
on all dealrahle grades. As enmcared with
the close of last week the advance amounts
to lMr20c and sometimes more. Canners,
though, have not shown a great deal of
Improvement.
B"Us. veal calves and stags did not show
much change today and are about steady
wl'h the close of last week.
Very few stock cattle arrived this morn
ing and not many were wanted, the same
ns Is generally the cao at the close of
the week. As compared with a week go
the market how an advance of 1(!J2V.
th,! la partlv du to a fatrlv good demand
from the countrv and moderate receipts,
snd also to the fact that packer a-e
buylne- cattle that farmsrly went for feed
ers. Represf ntntlve sales:

HOGS There wa just a fair run of hog
here this morning and with a continued
brisk demand the market ruled active and
higher. At the opening of the market the
advance amounted to a big nickel and all
the early arrivals sold that way. Several
of ths trains, though, were late in arriving
and by the time they got In packers did
not xm to be a anxinu for supplies, and
th close of ths market wa slow and weak,
about half of ths early advance being loet.
The early aalea went largely at 94 47V4 and
34.60. with a top at 94 56. The later sales,
though were mors st 94.49 and M 47V.-. ao
that tha bulk of all the hogs went from
4 46 to 94.50. This Improvement In the

SHEEP There were only three
cars
of
sheen reported this morning and of that
number one car wa consigned direct and
tre other two did not arrive until very late
In tho day. As a result not much of a test
of the market was made, but from the way
packers acted It was very evident that they
were nil hungry for fresh supplies and that
anything nt all desirable would have sold
readily enough at fully steady price.
The demand all this week eents to have
been In excels of the tipply, with the re
stilt that prices have Improved generally
livtfloe on both fat heep and lambs. Most
of the killer now coming forward have
been on feed a short time and they are
selling In Just about the same notches ns
western ranger of good quality. Occaalon
ally a choice bunch of native arrive and
they command a premium.
The demand for feeders la still heavier
than the supplv and prices are generally
10(tl5c higher than they were a week ago.
