OMAHA. Dec. 1. 19H4
With th Immediate opening there was a
fnlr display of strength In th wheat
mrket. but It proved of abort duration,
j he weather report were a potential
factor, the predictions of rain and snow
all over the country promising a breaking
of the drouth that has so long hinder I the
growth of th winter whest crop. Had It
not been for th positive character of the
buying of Armour At Co.. covering short
shI's mad at higher prices, coupled with
the suggestion that the house named had
turned to the bull side of the market,
there might hare been a delay In the rise.
Liverpool was c higher and this was the
early Influence. Th delleverte on Decem
ber contracts In . Chicago were Inconse
quential, but there la but little question
regarding the ability of the shorts to make
the deliveries when they ar ready. May
wis the active future, while the volume of
business In July I Increasing materially.
Other markets hold their own fairly well.
Omaha did not have but little wheat on
sale snd th difficulty In securing car
Is hindering the forward movement of
grain from this point.
At one time Chicago future were ic
higher, but this advance was lost. Decern,
b-r breaking to $l.u7V with a rally to
II'',. May opened at $1.0tT, advanced
to 11 1084. broke to $l.iVs. a net loaa of V,
snd recovering to $1.09v July at one time
ws 4tc higher, but reacted to a net loss of
V. finally closing slightly under yeaier
riavs late figures.
fOR.V The quality of the receipts Indi
ct tes that within the next two weeks there
lll be large receipts of No. 2 grade. Most
'if the arrivals now grade No. 8. The car
shortage is likely to delay arrivals, but th
corn will be sold for future delivery and
the chances are greatly In favor of reduced
prices. At one time futures were slightly
higher, but then December declined 4kc net
to S'no and May broke tc to 4fic. Ther
is quite a general sentiment In favor of th
bear side of the market. Th No. 8 corn
arriving I generally much improved a to
dryneKa.
OATS Market remains abnormally
steady and the fluctuations are not suffi
cient to call for further comment.

result of heavy sH.Ing by nortnwestern

figure of l.Oon.OoO bu. In consequence the
December discount under May In thst

In the oat market the-e was soma

was the last of uniformity In the day

and they were developed In rotation,
spreading the effect of the strength through
th session of the stock exrnange, but trie
general list did not be corns anlmsted at
any time and the day s business was con
siderably contracted from the recent aver
age. Some of the most notable feature
of recent advice were laggard or Inclined
to sag on light offerings. As against the
sharp gains In special stocks there wer
no well defined wek spots, but only dull
ness and heaviness.
There la still unabated confidence tht
the tranquillity of the money market 1
not to be disturbed by th year-end re
quirement, although It Is commoniy x
Pfctcd tht . rate will work somewhat
closer, flo long st money rates remain
easy there seem nothing that can disturb
confidence In th present market. There
was a revival of confidence that the North
ern Securities decision was Immediately Im
minent, but some uncertainty was professed
aa to what Its character would be, ao that
this served to Indue some hesitation rather
than to stimulate speculation. has
usually been the case. The strength of
St. Paul was generally attributed, how.

The active trading at receding prices In
cotton helped railroads which have a large
traffic In that commodity, and Illinois Cen
tral had the additional advantage of a
sale of $12,000,010 of Its bonds. The rise In
Amalgamated Copper waa based on rumors
of an Intended Increase In the dividend on
one of Its subsidiary companies. Raurond
earnings reported were generally favorable.
The conclusion of th Ixmdon settlement
occasioned a favorable Influence from that
source. Th December 1 settlements here
and the payment of a $30,00o,0o0 Installment
on Southern Pacific preferred stock Induced
a firmer ton both for call and time loans.
But this was not an effective Influence In
the tock market. The reactionary tendency
became firmly general, however late In th

CA'ITLE Receipts of cattle Were light at
all point this morning and particularly
was that true at thin market. With a good
demand from all sources the market ruled
active and sieaJv to stronsr. some sales
being as much as" u dime higher than the,
There wer several bunehe of corn-fed
iteers on sale this morning, but moat of
the4it were of the short-fed variety. One
bunch, however, wss good enough to sell
is high aa i.U. an average welgnt of 1.7.le
lbs. They were westertf cattle, but wet
good and fat. The short-fed cattle were
not very active, but still they sold In much
the same notches they did yesterday and
the general mnrkut wss steady.
There were not many western rnnge beef
steer on sale this morning nnd the quality
of thos that did arrive was rather In
terior. Packers, though, all had to have
fresh supplies and aa a result the market
riled active, with prices strong to a dime
higher than the ssine kinds brought yester
day. Practically everything In sight
changed hands In good season.
Quite a large proportion of tho receipts
consisted or cow stuff, but the demand wa
fully equal to the supply nnd the market
was active, with prices steady to strong.
Seme of the more lelrsbl giades, in fnct,
sold as much ss a dime hlgiirr. Even the
runners and cutters changed hands without
n great deal or trouble at fully as good
prices as were In force yesterday.
Bulls, vcul eulves and stags showed no
quotable change.
The Mocker and feeder market this morn
ing wna active and strong, as the demand
from th country all this week has been
fully equal to the supply. Some of th bet
ter grades commanded prices that looked aa
much ns a dime higher. Representative
