OMAHA. Oct. 1, 14.
It la becoming more snd more evident
every day that wheat I wheat and that
those who want It mum pay high prices
for It Thl Ik the situation tne world

bringing less money, but standard grades
of wheat are very much wanted In all
market where grinders compete for the

fined principally to exploiting tne rnvagea
of the Hessian fly, a vicious and well
known demroyer. and It was the detection
of this dread presence that added new
fuel to the excited and atrong market.
The reeclpta at rrlmary polnta are full

the nature of the bear to make a fight

and aa n result they have been In every
time wheat got high and have loat their

tion when they will have strength enough
to make an effective fight again. It looks
aa If wheat might fix Its own price and
that It might be much higher. Under the
circumstances, and In aplte of the Increas

futurea advanced in Chicago lo a buahel.

Prices en Hoard of Trade.
CHICAGO, Oct. 19-Ralna In the north
west and spread of Hesalan fly damage
southwest gsve eucoursgement to bull
traders la wheat today. As a result prices
at the close were up over a cent compared
with In at night. Corn made a net gain of
an even cent. Oata are up c. Provloions
show an advance of 2H to 10c.
A feeling of healtanry marked opening
transactions In the wheat pit. Initial nuo
tatlnna on December were a ahade to S1
He higher, at $1.14 to $1.14. May was
unchanged to VtJc lower, at $1.12 to
tl.12411.12. The uncertainty st the start
was due largely to the Indifferent tone of
cables, the Liverpool wheat market liplng
barely ntrndy, notwithstanding the sharp
advance here yesterday. Reports from
many uuarters Indicated that the damuKS
to winter wheat by Hesalan file wax in
creaxlng at an alarming rate. A claim was
made by a St. Louis authority that fit Iriirt
70 per cent of the Kansas wheat crop w:ia
already out of farmers' hands. With such
reports st hand, shorts and commission
houses were active purchaaers of the De
cember option. The consequence Waa a
quirk advance. December selling up to
$j.l6. May had a sympathetic ndvanre to
tl.13'8'1.13. Some of the large buyers
then turned sellers, and prices reart!1
about a half rent. Later the demand again
became urgent, and the market readily
responded to the Inrreaaed buying. Decem
ber advancing to $l.lt4. The hlKh point
on May was reached at $1.14. Renewed
firoflt-taklng caused another reaction later
n tha clay, December selling off about c.
Tne market closed strong, with December
tl.l6fil.l5. , Final figures on May were
at tl.13 Clearances of wheat and flour
were equal to 60.200 bushela. Primary re
ceipts were 1,114,100 bushels, compared with
liKl.tno bushels a year ago. Minneapolis,
Duluth and Chicago reported receipts of
778 cars, against 7K1 cars last week and 679
cars a year ago;
Rain In tha west and a prediction of more
to follow within the next thirty-six hours
gave a strong tone to the com market. The
strength of wheat also had considerable
influence. In addition, country acceptances
to blda sent out yesterday were exceedingly
small. Trading waa moderately active. De
cember opened unchanged to c higher, at
48H to 48t,o, sold up to 4Vfce and closed at
tha highest point. Ioca! receipts were 76
cars, with 4 of contract grade.
Oats were Influenced mainly by the
strength of wheat and corn, the market
holding firm throughout the entire session.
December opened o higher, at 28c, sold
up to 29c and closed at the top. Local re
ceipts were 119 cars.
Fewer hoga than expected and an advance
In grain rates were mainly responsible for
a strong provision market. There was soma
evidence of buying by packers. At the
close January pork was up 10c, at $12.35.
Lard was uo 24c, at $7.20. Ribs were 5ry!7o
higher, at $6.47.
Estimated receipts for tomorrow: Wheat,
9 cara; corn, 79 cars; oats, 102 cars; hogs,
23 m head.

active are the adjectives 'which describe
this week's market. . A healthful tone seems

tory wools are going freely at firm prices.
Pulled wools arriving are showing Im

CATTLE There waa a very moderjts
t run of cattle here this morning and in fact
t supplies were smaller than anticipated. Re
ceipts at other points couia not De caned
excessive and as a result an active and
strong market was experienced all around.
There were only a lew cars of corn fe4
steers In the yards, but the quality of
those that did arrive was unusually good.
One bunch sold for $6.1o and another tor
$6.25, the latter price being the higheit
paid here in some time past. The market
all round could Rifely be quoted active and
strong, eome sales being undoubtedly a
little higher. A
The demand for western rangers was also
In good shape and tne market ruled active,
with prices stronger. The better (trades in
many intancer. sold a llttiu htg.ier than
they did yesterday. One bunch was good
enough to bring $4.20. The general run of
cattle changod hands quite ireely at food,
strong prices and there did not Feem to be
hardly enough on scle to mtet the require
ments of tho trade.
There wero comparatively few cows on
sale and with a liberal demand from all
sources the market ruled active and strong,
with some of the more dcrlrable grades a
little higher. Even the canners and cut
ters seemed to be In good demand, si
that there waa an active market all
around and most everything waa dispose!
of In good reason.
Bulls, veal calves and stags commanded
steady to strong prices.
The supply of stockers and feeders was
rather limited and with a good demand
from the country yesterday the market
ruled active and stronger, the more de
sirable grades In many cases being nfilOc
higher. The better the quality the more
freely they sold, but as upp!1s were 11 ht,
even the commoner kind "O'd without dif
ficulty. Representative sales:

HOGS Tnere wae a lignt run of hogs
here this morning, ss will be seen from the
table above, and of that number twelve
cars were consigned direct to packers,
which still further reduced the number
on sale. Supplies st other points were
slso light, so that prices Improved a little
In spite of the bearish attitude of packers.
The market here opened nbnut a nickel
higher, but after buvers had their more
urgent orders filled they went to wrk to
cheapen up on their droves and only of
fered shout steady prices with yester
day. Salesmen, of course, wsnted the
esrly prices, and aa a result trad
ing was very slow and It was rather
late before a complete clearance was made.
The general market could probably best
be described by calling It opening 6c higher
nnd cloalug with the advance mostly lost.
The bulk of the sales went from t4 97 to
$5.05, with the choicer loads from $6.05 to
$5.10. The top was not ss high as yester
day, but there were no hogs on sale to
compare with yesterday's top load. Repre

SHEEP AND LAMBS There waa an
other light run of sheep here this morning
and aa the demand from local packers
was as brisk as ever the market ruled
active and strong all around. In Tact there
did not seem to be enough killers In sight
to meet the requirements of the trade and
a number of sales were undoubtedly a
little higher. This waa true of both sheep
and lambs nnd trading waa active from
start to finish. The quality of the offer
ings was better then usual and aa will
be seen from the sales below that fact
helped out the appearance of the market
on pnper.
The demand for feeders was slso brisk,
as a large number of buyers were on hand.
Both sheep and lambs sold readily at
good strong prices where the quality was
at all satisfactory. Even the common
kinds sold fully as well as they did yes
terday. Quotations ror grass sheen and lambe:
