Grain markets wero inclined to be
little alow and 'CAherally easlqr. although
there waa nothing In the trade of
the day to change sentiment from the
bull aide. Aa haa been frequently atated
n me last rear weeks, tna high prices de
mand continuous newa of a character to
alarm shorts, and when the short Interest
hs well covered the speculation ssgs until
there haa been a downward movement that
will encourage the? bears td make another
rj. ine crop statement by the govern
ment la awaited with Interest and ' this.
with the double holiday coming over Labor
ujr lenos io restrict speculation. casn
grain continues In excellent demand and
millers and grinders are active In all mar
kets for supplies. The weather map ahows
'iirt connmons in me corn Den ana in
soma sections where wheat threshing la
going on, but there- are other districts
where rain Is still falling and where much
Is being done. Chicago speculators
damage
started their future prices about Hri4o
higher, but the opening figures proved to be
the highest of the day and thereafter the
turn was steadily but very slowly toward
lower prloea until wheat" for all deliveries
waa a point lower, corn 4c and oats about
ViC. At the lower prices there was some
evening up or contracts and getting out or
the market by traders who do not Intend
to get In sgaln until Tuesday at the
earliest. Tomorrow will be but a, short
session.
In the closing hour of tha session prices
suffered a further shrinkage, making the
total decline lor the day on wheat l"4
points, but other grains were comparatively
sieaay.
Jones Issued another crop .estimate on
wheat for the three northwestern states, In
which he gave the probable figures ss 137,
000.000 bushels, divided as follows: Minne
sota, 66,000,000 bushels; North Dakota. 4i,
000.000 bushels, and South Dakota, 27.000100
Dtisneis. 'inese figures are in line witn tne
stories of rust and dlsaater, but are rather
better than the majority of dispatcher from
ihb sections nameu wouia seem to inuivme.
Omaha cash sales were at satisfactory
figures, the highest price being 93c for No.

The usual election year uncertainties have
been less pronounced than In the past and
there is no indication at present to Justify
a belief that they will become more serlou

Far greater Interest is taken by the leading

CATTLE There was a lla-ht run of rattle
at all points 'this morning, even for a Fri
day, and as a result the market here ruled
quite active, with prices stronger rather
than otherwise. Practically everything in
sight was disposed of In good season.
The few cars of corn-fed steers on sale
changed hands readily enough at good.
steady prices, as compared with yesterday.
me morsel now is in mucn tne same po
sition it was at the close of last week, the
decline the first of this -week having been
regained. The demand for desirable grades
Is brisk, as packers buy them up before
they look for westerns, but short red stuff
Is neclected. -the same as Is generally the
case at this time of year" -
There were not enougn western grass,
beef steers here to tell much about tho
market. . Is ssfe to say; however, ,that
the big bulk of the decline the early part
of the week has been regained. Prices,
though, are still a little lower than at the
close of last week, unless It be In the case
of something very choice.
There were about ten or a dozen loads of
cows and heifers In the yards this morning.
and with an active demand the market was
brisk and a little higher. Some sales, In
fact, showed considerable Improvement
over yesterday's market. As compared
with a week ago, tne market may still be
around a dime lower on the majority of
the offerings, but still most of the decline
of Monday and Tuesday has been regained,
owing to the light receipts since the middle
of the week.
Bulls, veal calves and stags did not show
any particular change today, everything
veiling at about ateady prices.
The demand from the country yesterday
for stockers and feeders wns tn good shape.
and as a result speculators were an iook
ing for fresh supplies this morning. In spite
of the fact that It was Friday. Good stuff
sold freely at steady prices, while common
kinds were a little slow, but about steady.

BHKISP AND LAMBS There was
rather liberal run of chirp and lambs here
tnis morning tor a jrriany, iut still prices
held up fairly well, all things considered.
Buyers were a little slow about . taking
hold and naturally picked out the better
grades, wnicn sold at ngni aroiuici sieaoy
prices. There waa no mistaking the fsct.
however, that the tendency waa In-the
direction of lower prices and that -was e
peclallr the case on everything except the
more desirable offerings. As high as $5.26
was psid for a big string or lamps.
Quite a few cars of feeders were, on sale.
but no particular change In the market
took place. The demand for desirable
grades seemed to be aa brisk as ever. -
