No action has at J-et been taken on the

the order, when It Is Issued, will affect
Omaha or not It la said that some details
remain to be arranged before the plans
decided upon will be given out. The gen
eral opinion' prevails among local agent
that the charge will not affect this city,
aa there seem to be no specially congested
district which would come under the rules
at present considered, and which will
probably govern.
It la said that fire Insurance companies
are at present watching packing house
risks very carefully' on account of the
strike In progress. Although nothing has
aa yet been made public which would In
dicate that companies currying the rlxks
are 'not perfectly satisfied, still It Is whis
pered that all la not as peaceful as the
surface would seem to Indicate. Strenuous
objection has been made to the manage
ment of the various houses employing
nonunion help. It Is asserted, against tha
lodging of such help In the plants. By
such action on the part of the packing
companies. Insurance men contend, hm
ha sard has been greatly increased. A
great deal of bedding tins been taken into
the packing plants to accommodate em
ployes and It In Impossible to prevent tha
men smoking when they are penned up so
long. Matches and bedding do not go well
together in the estimation of insurance
men. They also say that there are many
other ways through which the risk is In
creased. The fire loss of the United States find
Canada for the month of July, as compiled
from the carefully kept records of the
Journal of Commerce and Commercial
Bulletin, shows a total of $11,913,200. The

The fire loss of the United States and
Canadn for July amounted to $11,923,200.
Company managers are still confronted
with the commission question,' which is of
vital Interest to local asents as furnishing
the basis on which they are to do busi
ness. Many plans have been advanced for
an Improvement In the' system of paying
commissions. Some of the managers as
sert that every commission agreement
adopted during the last few years has re
sulted In raising the expense of the Inter
ested companies. They now want some
plan devised which will have the effect of
reducing expenses In somo measure.

Among the questions asked by a local
company of nn applicant for an agencv was
this one: "Have you been In the business

The Central Union Life IP new venturo
