SIOUX CITYi la., Aug. 13.-(Speclal Tele
. aram.) After eight Innings In which neither
Sioux City noc Omaha could make a run,
Howard leaned up against a fast one of
Jarrott's and knocked the ball over the
fence for a homer. Carter had just knocked
a alngle and trotted around the bags with
the second baseman. Thegame waa the
finest played on the Riverside diamond this
year. It waa a pitchers' battle In which
J&rrott hid .the best of the . contest over
Ffclster until the eighth inning. Both men
were swinging fine and hits were scarce
and harmless. The, Intensity of the contest
Imbued every plnyer with a ginger and
nap which filled the game with sensational
flelilng and wondorful climaxes..
The one, two, three order waa commenced
from the first and the grandstand, aa the
innings progressed, became tumultuous and
the rooting, was of the most strenuous
character. The suspense was great, and
each time the Omahas were placed on the
bench a sigh of relief came from the crowd
in the amphitheater. ,
Thlel started the battle with a popup;
Carter hit, but waa caught at second.
Thus it went for'eight Innings, until How
ard located the banks ofj the Sioux and
sent the bull over the fence for a plunge
, bath. The Omaha's nearly scored in the
eighth,, wheh Thomas tried to come In on
Gondlng'a hit. Lawler fielded the short
drive cleanly and winged it in homo and
Thomas was caught about a foot from the
plate and was tagged out so hard by
Graves that he limped to the bench. Law
lei" and Welch distinguished themselves by
superior fielding. . Dolan retired from the
game at the end of the third Inning on ac
count ot. sickness. The score;
