SHUTOUT UP TO THE NINTH INNING
Baaa-era Make II riala that It la a
Flae Thlaa- for lk Colorado
Tram to Open Seaaoa
t florae.
Tt would be an awful thin for Omaha
to make it five straight. Yet thata what
an enlhunlaiitlc Omaha fan told a crest
fallen and excited Colorado BprinRs fan,
returning- from the game on a street car
yesterday, would happen.
After the two victories of Sunday won
Just beenime that was the day Pa Rourke
slid In safe at, the forty-first mlleMone of
hfa career that one yesterday makes it
all the more apparent that it' a fine thing
for a Colorado base ball team to open up
the season on Its home grounds.
With but half a many hits as the visi
tors, Omaha yesterday won a game which
was a shutout for the other fellows until
they lit onto Brother Brown In the ninth
Inning for four hits and three runs.
But then Pa's flock of young hopefuls
won the. game and that cover a multi
tude of other things and makes the score
books andiPa'a face look like one long
summer .day. They won the -game . arid
what is better, that makes five games
won out of the last seven played, which la
going some and don't forget (hat these
seven games were played with the Colo
rado teams.
Welch stood out In the limelight of pub
licity and femininity yesterday p. m. like
the lone bivalve at a church oyster supper.
It' was 1n the sixth Inning that .the robust
medical student Bent a homer to the left
field fence, bringing In Howard from first.
While Howard and Welch were sailing
home, Ryan and Graham were on leave
of absence finding the ball underneath the
leftfleld fence. They found the ball.
tCverythina- Cashed In.
Up to the seventh Inning, Inclusive, the
players who are on the payroll of Man
ager William A. Rourke scored six runs
out of only .four' bits and a sacrifice. In
the eighth Howard made the, only three
base hit of the day and had the misfor
tune to be left at the aiding .when Welch
went out to Graham r Dolan made' three
single hits out of as many times at bat,
scoring once nd was, left, on . bases the
other two times. He was In fine form.
Carter broke into print In the first half
of the' fifth,' when Bfterwald sent a right
field fly out. thinking that Carter was
reading the advertisements on the fence.
Baerwald got to first without molestation,
but Mr. Radcllffe, who Was on first when
Mr. Baerwald batted.. by virtue of a pass,
started to kick up the dust In the direction
of third hase. He registered at second
base all right and then took the main track
for third,' but was" met by the ball In
. Bchlpke's hands, Carter having made an
other of his beautiful throws from right.
Radcllffe was put down and out. He made
a good run but a bad stand. Carter's
throw was a star play and created con
siderable noise In the seats. Brother Baer
wald 'finally was left on the base. And
so it wa until the grand finale In the
ninth.. Up to the ninth the visitors man
aged to get out a few hits now and then;
In , fact they did not do so bad In the hit
ting line, but when they1 came to getting
around the bases and making timely hits
they were nil for "eight Innings.
Thlel thrust himself to the front ot the
stage In the eighth, when Will sent heap
b'S fly . to thjit part of the center field
where he thought no one would be; watch
ing, but Buck waa there and after a hard
run. clasped the. ball between Ma hands
and Bobby Camthers called "out."
In the seventh Inning- Nash was replaced
In-the box by Torrie, a recent acquisition
of the Ryan family. He ;waa hit safely
once and then. by . Howard, who made his
three-base hit. Attendance, 2,500. Tho

PART OF
The man who is wise knowd enough to advertise, be '
cause he knows advertising has become a permanent feature
of competition. The man who does not realize this fact
and act accordingly fails to meet one of the most important
phases of competition. '
Xo business is so good but that judicious advertising
will make it better, and no business can be so poor but that
advertising, when in conjunction with proper business
methods, will . make a decided improvement.
The first thing necessary to make advertising pay is to
understand your proposition, study your business and then
learn the different methods of advertising. And when you
have mastered this you will know what to advertise, how
to advertise and W11EHE to advertise.
Then, too, it is well to keep a record of your advertising. .
This is an easy matter. Get a book suitable for the purpose '
and when your ad appears in any medium clip it out and
paste it in this book, write the name of the medium in which ,
it appeared and the date on the margin. These clippings
are good for future reference, for if an ad proves to be ex
ceptionally good you may be able to repeat it with good ,
results. ' .1 '
Every unselfish person desires to give .credit where
credit is due and to help others to the extent he can without v
injury to himself. Xe thereby suggest the above method,
in order to help those whose business lacks one of the essen- '
tials of competition. ..For -when. they shall have reached. the
summit of success they will then be enabled to intelligently
advise their friends to use' Bee Want Ads. This helps us.
