TITE OMAIIA' DAILY BEE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, IHOf. )MAHA SHUTS OUT DENVER t. 2nger Talis first Game with Old Pop Eyler in Box. SANDERS IS TOO MUCH FOR VISITORS uolda Thru Dewa to Three lilt and Sot One of Mnantnlnrrri Get Further Thaa First Half, Omaha, 2; Denver, 0. It wan almoxt a Bhnme for Pa's Sunday school class to take the money yesterday afternoon from the Mountaineers on the Vfntnn street reserve. But H did It with 'lands down and then had enough steam eft when the game was over to start . nother shoe factory In Omaha. . It was a )iiy treat, as they say ov.r In dear old Lunnen." Why, ' the Omaha vegetarians just started In and pounded old Pop Eyler, i!iat exploded hoodoo, for eight safe de posit hits and a pair of sacrifices, and the best the Colorado delegates could do with Mr. Banders was three, lone hits, made 'iy HaJlman, Ketchnm and Hartzell, and all jf these 'v well-meaning gentlemen, read .heir obituaries going from first to second wine, being cut down In Choir youth on .leldem choices. Not one of the western fire-eaters rested safely on second base during the entire game. Carter and Hostetter maoa two sensa tional catches that will ' secure for them .nerved seats In the hall of fame Just as soon as the baseball season Is over and the crops are harvested. In the first half of the eighth Eyler thought Nick Carter was trying to find a four-leaf clover over in right Held, so he sent a long one over to Nlcodemus, who made one of the pret ilest runs seen for a long time, catching die ball under a full head of steam with out batting tut optic. And suddenly the scene was changed. Pa's face lit up-wlth Joy. Kre he had time to think he cried: "Great, Nick, my boy, my boy." Oae for Hostetter, Too. Brother Hostettef of the visitors also made one of those grass-burning catches In the last half of the sixth. Bchlpke came to bat and had an Idea that Hos did not know the fact. Bchlpke connected with the ball and sent a trade excursion flyer out to left and Hos got busy with both feet and hands. He ran to the fence on on his feet and closed in on the ball with his hands while his pedal extremities were still on the active list. . Both Carter and Hostetter were1 roundly applauded. Tho first three Innings were profitless for the ' boys from the foothills. They Just . walked up to the bat In one, two, three order and, like certain general and his soldiers, marched back to the bench And again. In the fourth, fifth and eighth they managed to place tho bat In Juxtaposition with the ball and crawl to the first base, but, as before stated,' they soon Joined the great majority. ' For the home beauties Welch headed the batting list with three safe hits and one pass to first In four times up. One of the hits was a mllk-curdllng three-bagger. And then Welch stole the only base that was taken In the game. Nick Carter made two sacrifices, one bringing Thlel over the plate and the second placing the same Individual on second. Thomas made a two-base hit that enabled him to trip In when Schlpke made bis only hit of the game. Attend ance, 1.000. The Scores ' , " 1 OMAHA. . .. ... ' i Aa- R. H," PO. A. E. Thlel. Good play all round wsa the order of the day In yesterday's matches for the city championship and among the good matches that between Conrad Young and Harry Kohn stood out as the best. It was great. Hardly a miss In the whole game and though Kohn lost the two sets 6-3. 6-3, he lost them hard and Young de served all he got. Out of the eighteen games played, ten of them hovered be tween deuce and vantage for various lensrths of time. Kohn opened the show by winning the first point and succeeded In bagging, the first two games by excellent net play. Thrn Young got him In the back courts and took the next five games straight off the reel. In the eighth game Kohn bucked up and after a fierce fight managed to add that to his wins. He started well In the ninth, but Young did not give him a chance to get near the net and after another plucky fight Kohn lost It and the first set. The second sot opened iffore brilliantly than tho first. Kohn walloped hard and often In the right hand corner of the court and won three straight points. He tried the same drive a fourth time, but, going outside, gave Young his first point. Th'js encouraged. Con made good with his overhand serving and after a series of long and hard rallying full of "Impossible" shots, he crawled to deuce. Then he netted in a backhand stroke. He brought the game back to deuce, however, by a beautiful smash and got to vantage quickly after. Kohn would not have It so and proceeded to get back to deuce by a twisting scorcher. The game was kept up In this see-saw style for quite a while, but was finally won by Young. The next three were also deuce games, the first two being carried off by Young and the third by Kohn. The fifth and sixth Young got without working hard for them, but lost the next two. The ninth was another deuce game, with vantage In and out, but Young got It at the finish. Other Fast Games. This was not the only hard fought game yesterday. Schneider in his mat,ch with Martin had to play for all he was worth In he second set before he won R. In the match between Towle and Dufrene, the former lost the first set, but won the other two, 6-0, 6-4. Towle played a quick. snappy game, chock full of gltyrer and hot pepper, ana got uu Irene tucKerea out at the end of the first set. The second was a love set In his favor, but In the deciding set Dufrene came back to the fray with some dandy volleys and won four games. But that was his last gasp, and try as he would he could not prevent Towle from winning the game. The game between A. Collett and D. Pollard was another three-set affair. Pollard taking the first, losing the second and winning the third. Following wero the matches played and their results: Third Round i D. Pollard beat A. Collett, 6-3. 3-6, 6-3. Dr. Schneider beat O. Martin, 6-3. 7-5. J. W. Towle beat F. R. Dufrene. 6-8. 6-0. 6-4. Conrad Younj? yeat H. Kohn, 6-3. 6-3. Besides these matches a number in the consolations wetei played. Drawlnars In Doubles.
