Omaha hut out Tebeau's cubs today with

bases on balls and there were errors plenty
to lose two games, but they just could not
throw It away. A small crowd of fans

nessed a freak game. Hallman tried to
teal home after his three-bagger In the
ninth, but Oondlng was there. In the same
Inning Pfeister struck out Ketcham, Den
ver's best batter. In the second Welch
hit, was sacrificed to third and got horn
on an error. In the fifth Oondlng singled,
tola second and cams In on Pfetster's two

DEBATE OVER FASCISE PATENTS
Dodsre Connty Decide to Bay Rights,

FREMONT, Neb., July . (Special.) The
county board spent most of the forenoon
dlscusalng whether to purchase for 2750
the right to use the Kellner Fascine system
for the protection of the banks of tho
Platte and finally decided on a vote of six
to one to purchase the right, paying 8300
down and 8450 May 1, provided the fascines
work as Kellner claims. After the vote
was taken It developed that the only evi
dence of a patent before the hoard was a
clipping from a newspaper that a patent
hud been issued, and the matter wns re
ferred to the county attorney ittid It Is
possible that the action may be recon
sidered. The fascines which are practically
wing dams of V shape, constructed of
heavy timbers placed at right angles to
the bank . and partially sunk, were put
near the Platte bridge In May last and
are doing all that was claimed for them.

Pollard claved yesterday afternoon resulted
In the fatter pair winning three straight
sets, tne score being b-o. u-z. a-i. The re

first set. Chase was completely off his
usual style and played a dispirited sort
of game that would nave discouraged any
partner. And Desides. ine Handicap given

and Pollard owing 15 find hulf-15, seemed
too much. Kohn old Ills level best for a
while, but after losing tlfe first set he,
too, seemed to give way to despair. The
fact was that Chase was tired out from
playing In a game of base ball In the
morning.
Scrlbner and I'ouara mane an meal pair,
the former deliahtlng In tricky play, with
many hot 'una and splendid placing, while
he latter kept to the steady plug some-nine-
