Tb play Itself is a quaint little patch work of things one has seen before; just sufficiently reminiscent to pique one's mind into locating tha situations and thereby re calling delights of bygone days and play ers, while affording all the time a most de lightful evening in Itself. It is a certain pleasure to any one, and a double pleasur to th auditor who care to hark back along th track of memory. Mr. Carton has ingeniously contrived a number of variations for familiar situations, and by the very simplicity of his methods has added a charm to their arrangement and management. The final of each act I a triumph of simplicity, and, being moat rtlstlcally and thoughtfully worked out by the company. Is made uncommonly effective. Mr. Faversham has developed during the years since he came here a leading man in a high-class stock company; his stellar honors are easily worn for having been fairly won. He 1 a man of ardent tem perament, easily responsive to surround ings, and the cordial reception he received last night certainly kad Its effect in urging him to his best. His character In the play a one of repression, a well-bred gentleman. who doesn't seem o be understood by those who know him best, and who Is placed in a false position, from which he Is happily rescued by his wife, who did know him. Ths situations are bandied with a quiet confidence, the result of long fsmlllarlty with the role, and afford ths exterior evidence of ability to correctly ap preciate and accurately express dramatlo values. Miss Opp, although not in robust health, enters Into the spirit of th play with as much seal as does tha star; In fact, this can be fairly said of each of th support ing cast. The excellent bits of acting aside from those of the leading characters are so numerous that it would take a long time to tell of all. Miss Opp Is tall and dark, and moves about the stag as on accustomed to the surroundings. 8h has a charm of manner that Is quit eon vlnclng because of Its unaffectedneas, and her demeanor and the expression of her vole lead Irresistibly to the conclusion that her reputation for sincerity is not without ample foundation. Omaha la certainly glad to rr.ake her acquaintance, and may say to her, In the conventional phrase, "Now that you have found the way, w hop you will coma often." Miss Roebuck quit shares with Miss Opp In any praise that may be given, for she enacts a very diffi cult role with exceeding good taste and rare judgment, having several opportunl ties to exceed the proprieties and spoil a scene or a speech, and neatly avoiding each. Her struggle with the dress In the ball room scene was a capitally sustained assumption of discomfort, and her final exit on the arm of the marquis of Quarmby a bit of dlssemblanc worthy of th artist she apparently Is. The audience last night was not so large as tha merit of th attraction deserved, ths unusual weather conditions being largely responsible for this fact; but the house was well filled with a fine repre sentation of ths fashion and Intelligence of the city, and th reception given th play and th players waa certainly suf flciently warm to make up for any lack of numbers.
