than the clone Monday and after backing;
and nilinar, ended by raining a cent. Corn
opened but little lower than Monday clou

day and some evidence of growing outside
interest. The largest part of the trading,
however, waa still In the hands of profes
sional operators and the early activity was
not well maintained. The latter part of the
day showed signs of laasltude In the move
ment. Lrfkrge attention was arlven to the auarterlv
report of the United tilates steel corpora
tions and the opinions held on the showing
played an Important part In the whole

dence that a considerable short interest wns
disagreeably surprised by the character of

mand was moderate owing to the consul
settlement, while heavy repayments were
made to the Bank of England. The Issue
of 10.000,000 of new treasury bills April 11
Is expected to reduce supplies and have a
steadying effect on discounts. Prices on

ness waa fairly active. First-class securi
ties were in demand. Consols were strong
ana home rails were steady. Americans
advanced to above parity. The market
closed nrm. Foreigners were Irregular,
Russians were easier, while Japanese were

PARIS, April 8. Business on the Bourse
today was calm, with the exception of
Turks, which were depressed on rumors of
renewed discord In Bulgaria. At the close
prices were heavy.' Russlnn Imperial 4s
closed at 95 francs.- Rio Tlntos gained 12
francs. The private rate of discount was

were a good many on sale and buyers were

SHEEP AND LAMBS There was rather
a small number of sheep on Bale this morn
ing ss ten cars or the receipts were 1101
offered. The demand was about of usual
else and as a result the market ruled
active and strong from start to linlsh on
all desirable grades. Owing to the light
offerings the pens were cleared at an early
hour. Some clipped wethers were sold this
morning at $5.00, widen Is the highest price
of the season to date, but they were extra
choice and. In - fact, the best that have
been here In a long time. Ewes with the
wool on sold up to $5.10.
The market on lambs did not show much
change. Good stuff sold without trouble
at fully steady prices, as high as $5.60
being paid for Mexicans, tut the commoner
grades were a little slow, the same as
usual.
