The secretaryship committee of the Com
mercial club will not recommend any per
son for the vacant position at the executive
meeting Tuesday. It will ask for more
time. The committee, together with tbe
club officers, met and considered the sit
uation. Of the twenty-flve or more appli
cants for this position, the greater num
ber was eliminated from the list of pos
sibles. The members of the committee will
now Investigate the records and work of
the other candidates with a view to getting
the best.
When the club was organized there was
a secretary and a railroad commissioner.
The latter office was merged with the
former in one year and Mr. Utt, who had
been the railroad man, became secretary
also. The proposition of leaving the rail
road work alone for the present waa con
sidered with favor. It waa felt the Grain
exchange la doing enough to cover that
field. Chairman Wright said Vhere was
favorable consideration of appointing? a
man who was a mixer and would be able
to work up the membership to 1,000.
