The decrease In loans shown In the bank statement was contrary to expectations. The bank state ment was of little Influence, however. The steadiness of Northern Securities on board bad a dissuasive influence on tr.idera. Total sales of bonds, par value. 394,"i,.ni. The obscure outcome of tho coming year's crops, the doubt over the supply of cotton to be finally disclosed by the present year's crop, the sharp drop In the value of tho country's exports ns n consequence of the speculative level at which prices of com modities are held, the problem of tho enrn inRS to be achieved on the heavy expendi tures now nut k I im by the railroads, the uncertainties surroundlnir the war In the far east nnd Its possible complications nnd general unsettlement usual to a political campalpu in this country are some of the substantial grounds for the hesitation and stauniitlon which enshroud the securities market. The note of Improvement In the Iron and steel trndo was of undoubted Im portance and Its lack of Influence on the stock market Is evidence of the number of other factors In the outlook. The bond market has been dull and slua; Blsh In sympathy with stocks. United States bonds are unchanged on call for the week. For the week receipts show a slight Kam, both over last week and tho cot responding week of last year. The demand had been In goo I Shane most of the veek r.nd the genetal tencjency of prices- hss been upward. Ihe market on corn led sto-rs may tie quoted 15ir2oa higher l.:tui Monday, or, In other words, tho market Is nr&rly back to the high point of lust week, Fr day's de cline of last week being practically 11 11 re gained, particularly on desirable grades. f in .n,a rl 1, -m tm ,'Uiira Sana I a n a 1-1.1.. bearish, but still the local demand, as well as the shipping demand, has been In good shnpe on most days, and an active and strong market has been the general rule. Good to choice corn-fed steers sell "largely trom 34.60 to J5.0O and as high ns J5.20 was paid for a prime load. Fair to rood cat tle are quotable from J4 25 to J4.50 and, com moner Kinds lmgely from $3.76 to' J4 15. "Warmed-up cnttle weighing under 1,000 pounds sell from $3.75 down. The tendency of the cow market has also been upward and tho general market Is l.Vff20o higher for the week, or nearly as good as on Thursday of last. week. There has been a very strong demand for good light-weight hellers and such kinds nre In many cases fully a quarter higher. Me dium grades have also improved and. while canners are some higher, still they nave not advanced as much as the better grades. Neither did they suffer na much of a de cline on Friday of last week. Cnnners nnd cutters are selling largely from 11.90 lo $2.50. fair to good grades from $2.75 to J3.25 and good to choice from J3.30 to $3.75, with extra cnolce as high as J4.00. Rulls ore still rather slow sale and prices hnvo fhown very little Improvement. It takes n choice bull to bring $3 00 to J3.25. though nn occasional ralo Is mnde a !Htle higher than that, t'eal calves have been In good deiiinnd at strong prices, top sales being J5 .50. The demand for stockers and feeders has been fully equal to the supply this week and each day's offerings have changed hands at an early hour. Deslr ablo cattle aro generally 10?15e higher for the week. Oood to choice grades are quoted from $3.75 to $4.15; fair to good. UK . r.t. CO. f 88., SriKF.!' AND LAMHS There were prac tically no sheep on sale this morning with which to test the market. For the week, though, receipts have been quite liberal, there being u small guln over last week nnd an Increase of about 5,000 head a compared with the same week of list ysar. The market, ns a whole, has been quit satisfactory. 1'rlces have fluctuated back and forth to sotrje extent, but still, closing prices are fully steady with those of a week ago. Ewes and weathers of good finality are, If anything, a little higher, while lambs and yearlings are only about sternly. The demand Is still best for tha ewes nnd wethers. Yearlings sell without; much trouble, but receipts of lambs have been so heavy ot some of the eastern mar kets that they have been a little slow at this point. Resides that, the quality of tha lambs coming to this market lias not been verv frond. There Is nothing new to be said of feeders, as receipts ure very light and prloes un changed.
