NEW YORK, Dec. 2-There was a con

panied by a period of conaplcuous strengtn.
Dealing in some stocks was in evlueme
at ail times and this tendency spread
through the market until It became lop
heavy and turned downwards, wiping out
part of the early gain. An upward spurt
in two or three of the industrial specialties
at the last partly rallied the market, but
realising again met the advance and the
closing wss active and Irregular.
The conspicuous movements at the last
were a Jump of 4c In Colorado Fuel, ic
In the Colorado FUel convertible bonus,

Copper. The fact that there was no news

gradually dissipated the uneasiness. Buy

decline In net earnings for October shown

Union Pacific's October statement showed

HOGS There was a liberal run of hogs In
sight this morning and as Chicago was
quoted 6(ffloc lower the market here eased
off a little. At the nnenlna- the decline
amounted to about a nickel, but before half
of the hogs had changed hands, or. In other
woras, alter Duyers naa tneir more uiiin
orders filled, the market weakened and
buyers were bidding 610c lower. Trading
wun verv slow all the morning:, partly be
cause sellers were trying to prevent a break
in prices and also because buyers did not
take hold with any enthusiasm. Heavy
hoaa sold laraelv from 14.25 to 14.80. with
soma helow 14 26. Medium welithts went
from 14-80 to 14.35 and lights sold as high as
14-40.
At time of mln to nress there were sev
eral loads still In first hands which packers
did not seem to care for. Their bids were
so much lower than the morning prices
that salesmen decided to carry tne nogs
over until Thursday. tiepreseniative

CATTLE There was a liberal run of cat
tle on sale this morning, but for the three
days this week there is quite a decresse
both as compared with the same days last
week and also with the same days of last
year. The table above will show the exact
ngures. Trading was not very active, but
still there waa very little change In ruling
prices..
There were several cars of corn fed steers
on sale, but most of them were short fed
and warmed up sturr for which the de
mand has been very limited. The prices
paid were not a great deal different from
those In force of late, but at the same time
it was very evident that packers pre
ferred the westerns to the warmed up" corn
cattle. Anything at all good in the way
of cornfeda could safely be quoted steady.
The cow market also showed very little
ensnge rrom yesterday. There was no
great amount or snap to tne trade, and In
fact the market seemed a little slow, but
prices on all grades held lust about steady
with yesterday. All the early arrivals
were sold In good season.
There was not enough change in the
prlcea paid for bulls, veal calves and stags
to ne wormy or mention.
There was not a large supply of stockers
and feeders In sight this morning, and as
speculators did not have many cattle on
hand they were looking tor more at steady
prices. The market was not active, but
generally steady with yesterday. Common
stuff was a little slow, but the prices paid
could not be quoted any lower.
Western grass beer steers were In small
supply and the market held steady. There
were so few on sale mat the market soon
came to a close. Range cows and western
stockers and feedera also commanded gen
erally steady prices. Representative sales:

SHEEP There was a fair run of shueo
and lambs here this morning and as Chi
cago was ouoted 5B"10c, lower the market
here eased off also. There was considerable
unevenness In the prices paid, but as
general thins: the best grades were steady
to a shade lower, while the general run or
both fed stuff and westerns was lofflloc
lower than yesterday. Some fed ewes sold
today as h an as 13.Z6 and some wetners
brought 14.00. Trading was not active, but
at the same time the bulk of the desirable
grades was , disposed of In fairly good
season.
The market was hardly as good on feed
ers todav as It was yesterday. The best
arades sold at about steady prices, but
aside from those the tendency was to pound
the market a little.

Dry floods Market.
NRVV YORK. Dec. !. DRY GOODS As
far as buying Is concerned the dry goods
market has not been appreciably effected
by the record prices secured on cotton.
Buyers are still incunen to await aeveiop
tneitn and there Is still a feeling that the
abnormal development of the cotton market
must give way to curtailment, wnicn must
have its effect on piece goods. This fact,
manufacturers and sellers to combat with
a constant tendency toward mgncr lim
