manded the Fourth I'nlted States Infantry
at Fort Omaha, from 1S83 to and was

General Carlln waa born In IKS, was grad
uated from West Folnt In PwO. lie served
with distinction during the civil war. 11a
was colonel of the Thirty-eighth Illinois In
fantry and roea to the rank of major gen
eral of volunteers during the war. He was
subsequently made major ot ths Sixteenth
Infantry, lieutenant colonel of the Seven
teenth infantry and In 1872 was appointed
colonel of the Fourth I'nlted States Infan

ington for Interment.
