and conduct a symphony orchestra and
military band, the aqual of tha musical or
ganisation with which ha formerly visited I
this city, and in addition will become head
of an Omaha college of muslo. That Is. if
aucoeas meets tha attempt to form a sym
phony company which is bains mada by
about thirty promlaaat bualneaa men.
A circular, which Is signed by Jay 3. Fos
ter aa secretary of the Omaha Symphony
company, states that it la tha Intention to
establish such a company In tha city, with
Herman Hellstedt aa leader, for tha objeot
of creating a musical center to elevate the
standard of musical art, "to locate with us
a matter conductor, to maintain a school of
muslo for advanced pupils for this section
of tha country, to promote In Omaha a mil
itary band that shall have a national repu
tation, to secure tha permanent establish
ment of a symphony orchestra that will
produce nigh class music, raisins tha stan
dard of muslo to tha highest elevation."
' Money Is all that la needed. To accom
plish tha purpose. It is proposed to organise
a symphony company of fifty players that
hall give a aeries of twelve evening con
certs In Boyd's during tha season between
December I and tha last of April. This
will cost $9,000. '
. To raise this amount season books will be
sold for H In blocks of five or mora and a
general admission of tl charged. A sub
scription blank accompanies tha circular.
Tha men who ate attempting to organise
this symphony company must know In a
few days whether or not the necessary
funds can ba subscribed. Those Interested
who have not received tha circular can
obtain one from Mr. Foster In the office
of If. E. Palmer Bon in the Merchants
National bank building. The association
will ba managed by twelve cltlsens as a
directorate and' any surplus arising from
the concert will be used In organising the
musical college and tha military band.

Tha most recent addition to tha relief
fund being contributed by admirers of tha
Omaha firemen was received by Chief Bai
ter yesterday, and came in tha form of
a check for $50 from the Midland Oloa
and Paint company, being lgned by F. W.
Judson, secretary and manager of tha con
cern. Enclosed with the check was a not
complimenting the Ore department on tha
measure adopted to protect tha property
of the city and which have proven so
effective. The hope that the fund might
grow to goodly proportion was expressed
and tha thanks of the firm for service ren
dered In the past war Included.

Doctor Gets Ills Grip.
A. F. Callahan waa arraigned In police
Court on the charge of appropriating Dr.
I. W. Porter's leather handbag from a
Pullman car of a Chicago at Northwestern
train at the Union depot a week ago last
Haturday night. Callahan took tha grip
ao tmdlv that he couldn't let loose of the
handbag until he had reached a loan
offloa on LoUKlaa street, lie pawned the
handbag, which contained a frw articles
of wearing apparel which the doctor
thought would be nerMuiary to take to
Chicago with him, his Intended destination.
Callahan waa sent to jail for thirty days
and will do the time at the county's ex
pense. The doctor secured his grip. The
pawn broker stands all pecuniary losses.

Anneaneemeata at the Theaters.
On Thursday evening tha regular winter
aeason open at tha Boyd with on of the
most popular musical comedies ever seen
In Omaha. The Prince of Pllsen" was a
big hit last year and It Is now out for Its
second tour, equipped with a full new
scento garniture and with new costumes
throughout. Several of the principals are
new to tha piece, but not V the local pub
lic and tha song and situations remain
unchanged. It Is bright and sparkling from
first to last. Beat are now on sale for tha
engagement, which Include three nights
and a matlnea.
Another large audience enjoyed the per
formance of "Sweat Clover" at tha new
Krug theater laat night and the play 1
evidently In for a large week' business.
Today at t:30 occurs tha first of the pop
ular matinee which the management has
planned for tha season. Every seat In tha
house will be tS cents, with no axtra
charge for reserving in advance. As
"Sweet Clover" has mada a substantial
hit with the women there 1 no doubt that
tha theater will ba crowded this afternoon.
Door will b open at 1:16 for all matinee
at tha Krug theater.
