Yesterday wss Kelly day at Vinton street
park Kelly, the umpire., Beside putting
a speetatot out of the grandstand and the
ground by the aid of Chief Donahue and
a nqmd of hla choice policemen, he ordered
Pa Rourke oft the Omaha players' bench
and chesttly announced In a sonorous tone
that he was yearning for more empires
to conquer. Kelly rose up at Pa because
F feeling good over the way his
children were slapping It to the Missourlans
and once in a while chipped In Just to
how his fatherly affection. It was Kelly's
authoritative manner which angered the
crowd when Rourke left the bench and led
a number of spectators In the grandstand
to manifest their disgust and one to give
up his seat at the earnest request of Mr.
Kelly.' Kelly threatened to throw the
game If Rourke and the spectator did not
go. A squad of home-roasters who were
"throwing It Into" Rourke harder than
Kelly was getting It, however, was allowed
to remain seated.
The game was a tight one and from
Omaha's standpoint, a well played one.
The Jo Jots, however, lined up with too fat
an error column. The locals simply out
played the visitors at every turn of the
road, except In number of hits. Each
team slapped out nine safe ones, but the
locals managed to cash theirs In to better
advantage. The Rangers put up a most
rapid game In the field. Uenlna In center
caved In over four big drives, Without a
muff; Kelly at short drew four assists and
one put-out; Miller and Carter each nabbed
the only two that came their way; Shugart,
Hlckey, Oondlng and Thornton were up
and coming, while Sander copped onto four
assists in the box. Banders did his share
toward batting out his own vlotory, too,
for he poked the ball twice safely, each
time advancing a runner. It was Genlns
day at the bat, though; two safe ones and
a sacrifice he got
'. Oenla Steals Home.
In the fifth Inning Genlns performed the
difficult feat of stealing home. With no
one on baa he drove a liner Into left field
mak-ln second on Donahue's fumble. Then
Miller got a life on 'an. error by Pl&ke at
short. ' This . advanced Genlns to third.
Plake, who had a , day off, "stood In a stupor
on second base with the "ball In his hand
evidently watching to see that Dusty didn't
try to rob him of the bag. In the mean
time Uenlns. assuming a most naiardous
risk, made a successful dash for the plate
This created a noise which woke PUke up
and he Sent the ball following Frank to
the rubber.. Garvin returned It like a
shot to second In time to catch Miller,
who was Just lying down, preparatory to
alldlnar In.
The Rangers' game bad life and ginger
In It from first to last and gave evidence
that there's many a good fight left In 'era
. even -with Kelly as umpire.
Dlehl made one of the most sensational
catches -of a red hot liner that has oeen
