J I THE OMAHA DAILY J1EE: THURSDAY, JULY 23. 1003. n DISTILLERS TARE TOE PAIR k'en from Peoria Refrue to Be Polite to Fa Eonrke'i Family. H.T OMAHA'S BEST PITCHERS AT WILL DoiMf-lld 4 a rreely Confessed that Local Faas Gat Marh More Tfcaa Their Money's Werth. The Distillers evened up with the Rourke. Ites yesterday afternoon by taking both games of the double header and batting the choicest of Fa Bill pitchers all over the Vinton street lot. Olmsted pitched ths full eighteen Innings for Peoria and allowed only eleven scattered hlta tn all of that time, while the Distillers got a total of twenty-si In the same time. Phafstal pitched the first gaoia for the lo cals and the Distillers began slugging him about the third Inning and kept merrily at It for the rest of the game. In the seventh Inning the real business was done for the visitors. With one man out Welch dropped an easy fly off of Olmsted's bat and singles by Theil and Preston brought In the first run. Lasotte singled and another run scrambled In. Then Wilson flew out and Wright put one out Into center and Welch dropped It, letting In two mora runs. Ace Btewart followed with a double and that made Ave runs and the last for the game, The locals gleaned their lone score In the third inning. Qenins and Miller each drew baaea and Bhugart sacrificed them on a peg. Welch went out at first and Qenins cams In tn the meantime. Thomas fanned then and wa were saved from a shutout by the narrowest kind of a margin. Henderson en the Ranker. Olmsted had been very wMd In the first game, but he settled down for the second game and was almost as hard to hit as In the first. Meanwhile Henderson wsa on the rubber for the Rourkeltes and waa being swatted lively-like. In the first Inning three singles,, a double and a man hit with a pitched ball netted two runs, and In the second, three singles In a row brought In another rhlp. Then Banders was brought forth from bis blanket and began to do things. He finished out the bad Inning and held them at his mercy the next Inning Then they started In on him and amassed five double and two singles In the next six Innings, which measured Into four runs Meanwhile the Rourkeltes dubbed around and gained one run la the third Inning on a bane on balls, a sacrifice and a couple of fielders' choices. After that thera was nothing doing until, the eighth, when Car ter drove a pretty pop-up right over the Infield and secured a Uen on the first cor ner. '. Genlns did likewise and Miller forced : him out at second. Bhugart singled and we had t tun In. Welch got tn the way of one of Olmsted's twisters and Thomas flew out to right field, whereupon Thomas waa caught trying to reach home on the throw In. Two dropped flies' and a single In the ninth gave the locals another score. It seemed quite familiar to see "Red" Wright on first for the Distillers, Btewart ' on second and Preston In the field. The bleachers seemed to think that the blue uniform of Peoria matched "Red's" hair better than the local color and "Red" him self thinks the effect more esthetic. First game: . ., PEORIA. AB. R. IB.
