Architecturally there weren't many
beauty point In the pow-waw at Vinton
8treet park yesterday afternoon, but there
was a plethora of loud aoundlna awata that
drove tha tnenalla of desperation Into the
heart of Uncle Bll'.y Hart Everybody who
had an "O" on hla breaat had frea access
to tha spheroid, and aa though thla cour
tesy were not enough a lot of tha LlUllem
frequently gave the freedom of tha dia
mond to Pa Rourke's kittenish young
things and let them do aa they pleased with
It That la why tha glad cymbals clashed
the score of 12 to I aa the free-born citi
zens were leaving the marbla seats of the
amphitheater.
Companion Pitched BalL
On Companion waa a true servant and
valiant soldier, keeping hla delivery out of
tha hands of the rabbi except on four
trivial but distinct occasions. The other
gentlemen who appeared In tha cast gave
apparently no thought to the personality
of tbs next pop, but devoted their time
and attention to the subject of base ball.
Thar waa nothing very exciting during the
afternoon. Billy Hart may hava thought
so, but no one els did. Hart smiled a
short smile In the beginning when Mr.
Carter and Mr. Ginln found that some
body had drugged their batting atlcka
Then Miller happened to lift a ball out to
ward tha right pasture where Old Bottler
Preston could not reach It There were
some weeds out there and it waa aome
time before Preston discovered whether or
not there was a ball in among 'era. Finally
he found it, but Miller had grown tired of
waiting and had gone home. Thla mighty
feat of arms produced an especial effort
from Shugart, who knocked out a long one
and - climbed two rungs. Bo did Harry
Welch, scoring Bhugart, but Thomas filed
out to Wilson. Peoria waa retired without
a dr , a run until tha seventh inning.
when KeeBler singled and Holly got a Ufa,
and errors by Bhugart and Companion lat
them score. In the ninth Hart got In after
a two-bagger, through a long hit by L-
sotte.
Some Omaha SluaTaTlaaT.
A saXe hit by Miller and a two-bag affair
on tha part of Welch gave Omaha another
run In tha third. In the fourth a hit by
Qondlng and an effort by Hartxell put two
men on bases and Carter knocked out a
double. Ha was put out by fielder's choice,
but Genlna got to first and later acored on
a single by Shugart. In tha eighth there
was soma low comedy work. Oanlna hit
safely and Miller poked out an toward
Pioneer Preston, who couldn't get hla hands
on It Oenlna and Miller kept on going,
and Preston made a bad throw to third
and tha two men acored. Welch, who
reached first, was acored in tha aama in
ning br a rank throw to third en tha part
of Keasler.
Ac Stewart occupied a plao on tha
players' bench, but did not play. Tha ex
cuse given waa that he had a sore foot,
but It la understood Stewart does not want
to appear on an Omaha diamond again.

Kew Boat Trasses line More Than
Thirty. Three Mlnates Ahead of
Shamrork I After Twenty
Mil Rare.
ATLANTIC IIIGHIaANDS, N. J., July 21.
After Its nurrow victory yesterday. Sir
Thomas Upton's new challenger was again
in racing form today and trimmed Its trial
horse by 33:17 In a twenty-mile race. Much
of its big victory was due to a fluke in
which It covered miles of water while
Shamrock I hung Idle In a calm.
Th sailors, however, consldor Sir
Thomas' presence brought luck to tha new
boat After watching the race from Erin
for aeveral days, he sailed today on the
challenger, whose crew declares ha rarely
fails to bring good luck.
Tha race was to have been for fifty
mile,, but a shift of wind spoiled tha plan
and the boats sailed a close reach east
southeast from Scotland lightship and
back, tha last five mllea about dead to
windward. Shamrock I was just passing
Sandy Hook lightship, four miles away,
when tha challenger rounded Scotland
lightship and finished.
The boat then took a broad reach of
six mllea aouth along tha Jersey coast in
a ten-knot wind. Shamrock III ran away
from tha old boat about an eighth of a
mile on tha way out, beating it by a few
hundred yards back . to the lightship, and
clinched Its victory by outsailing it by sev
eral minutes In a thresh up through Gad
ney'a channel and Ship channel to their
moorings In the Horseshoe. The victory
was decisive on every point ot sailing.
