Aua-. 29. There was a con siderable revival of confidence Indicated In today's stock market and in the final dealings the market broadened out Into animation and strength. This was ln face of a rise in the call loan rate to 6 per cent and a forecast of the bank statement Indi cating a cut ln . the reserves' of nearly $6,000,000. The Immediate prospect ln the money market seemed to be overlooked on account of the reports of the comprehen sive plan said to be favored by the secre tary of the treasury for the expansion of the note circulation of the banks, by wnicn it is nopeo to relieve tne demand Upon the lawful monev reserve for ura in the circulation Incident to the cron moving period. It will be remembered That the effort of Secretary Oage to redeem bonds maoe in April ot last year bad reached un to January 1 of the nresent vear In the redemption of government bonds to the par value of $58,222,180, and ln the payment to the money market, including premiums of $71,744,842. These disbursements were an important Influence ln maintaining the tranaullllty of the money market last fall, but the government's standing offer proved bo attractive tnai tne Danas Denan to sen bonds and retire their circulation in the spring as rapidly as. the law would allow This was neutralising the purpose of the bond redemption, so that Secretary Shaw withdrew the offer earl ln March. His efforts to stimulate the note expansion are evidently due to a recollection of the con ditions thus caused by the redemption of luvtrnmeni oonos. iTlces of the bonds have declined m. terlally since the withdrawal of the gov ernment's redemption order. They have risen again since the note expansion plan was uiscusseq, ana tooay tne Did prices Of the 4s Of 1926 llimned nee ronl In. dlcatlng the scanty floating supply and the nmicuities ot Dans; note exosniiion The encouraging effect upon sentiment of the discussion of this subject was sup plemented by the belief that the language ui tne circular issued Dy tne southern railwav VOtlnsr trustees mnlri Km arrant as Indicating the Incubation of the project for a southern railroad merger. There were the usual -rumors also of an early ciiiciiiBui ui tno antnracite striKe. The buying of Union Pacific was attrlb uted to a desire on the Dart of the in. siders to encourage conversion of bonds into stock. There were some points of rresuianty in tne market, the express stock, reacting sharply. American Bicycle securities, including the bonds upon which action on the Interest is expected on Mon day, were notably weak. The selling was accompsnled by reports that it was due to liquidation, induced by the coming retire' ment of a leading interest. The quality as a rule was rather Inferior, but still Just about every thing offered brought steady prices with yesterday. For the week the receipts have been very liberal, there being a good gain over last week's heavy run, and as com pared with the same week of last year the supply Is nearly double. In spits of thst fact active markets have been experienced and prices on good stuff have shown little change. There have been so few eornfed steers on sale this week that the condition of ths market la largely guess work. Nothing strictly prime has neen onrerea, out tne aeneral IrnDresslon is that finished cattle would bring about as much as they have at any time. Cattle selling from $7.00 to $7.50 are also about steady for the week, but the kinds that sell much below $7 come ln competition with the westerns, and If anything, are a little lower fof the week. The cow market eased off a little the first of the week in tne isce or Dig receipts, ht n Wedrresdav and Thursday the de cline was regslned and there Is now but little chsnge from the close of last week. Canners sold freely all the week at fully steady prices, as the demand was of liberal iroportlons: The 'only kind that dragged oil wara tha medium srradee. Bulls, veal calves and stsgs have .old at lust about steady prices all the week. The demand for prime yearlings and good heavy dehorned feeders has been some thing phenomensl all the week. The com moner grades, though, have been neglected b rH hava anld at rather uneven prices.
