1 1 TITE OMAHA DAILY HEE: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 1002, 8 T- r COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Bean Take Turn at th Bat on the Chicago Board of Trada. CROP PROSPECTS SHADE THE PRICES Excellent Growln Wftkri Good Reports from the Farm Caose Stamp la Flsrares All AIodk the LI". CHICAGO, June 8.-Bulla In the grain tie, bears took control agnin. aht n early how ot strength pressure wan put on wheat and corn and J uly h't closed Wc lower, July corn I'alMje down and July oats unchanged. l'rovltdons closed unchanged to 5c higher. At one time wheat gave promise of a food bulge. Liverpool cables were weak, uxuriant growth was reported from most of the wheat fields and the weather was all that could be expected. This caused an opening weakne, but support In the vay of buying July started an upturn. Taller" came In on the buying side, as did commission houses, and July, which opened VP 4c lower, at 71Va11Nc. ad vanced to Vc. I'art of this strength was given through the decrease of 6.41. .niiu bush els In the worlds visible supply. This price, however, could not withstand the constant selling pressure that was brought to bear from the southwest and the north west. Early crop talk Influenced the crowd to change sentiment and soon everything was on the down turn. July slumped eharply to II'hc and closed weak, Vff'sC down, at Tl'c. Local receipts were Bj r-arm nf contract itrade. Minneapolis and Luluth reported 1& cars, making a total fpr tne inree poinie ui jj ., ..nimi lift last week and 497 a year ago. 1'rlmary receipts were liberal, at M2.H0 tiuHhcl. compared with 41,U00 bushels last year. Seaboard clearances In wheat and flour euualed MS.fKK) bushels, , Corn ruled weak all day. Cables were rather Arm, hut the foreign markets were dull and affected by the early drop In hut nnd hravv receipts of 624 cars. July corn opened -4c to Virc lower, at bird 62c. The big bull Interests were buying for a time, but succeeded only In steady ing the decline. Offerings were not ex cessive, but there was a constant pres sure on the bulls. Primary receipts were very liberal, at 1.W8.0UO bushel. Crop re ports were excellent and although the country movement was not markedly In rrens.Ml the recent acceptances and heavy rocelpie caused cash houses to reduce their bids, wnicn, togeiner wnn a poor casn and export demand and reports of excel lent fodder growth. Induced slumps. July lid down to 61'ic. after having sold at 61o, and closed weak, liilV4iC lower, at 6lSe. K-tlmates of only 2m) cars for to morrow did not steady the market. Oats were stronger than the other grains today, but were dull and featureless, as far aa trading waa concerned. Kecelpta were not so large as of late, but there were fewer cars or contraco in me zji receivea today. This steadied the early weak feel- Inn Induced by the depression In Wheat and corn. The late weakness In the other grains took off a small advnnce that was caused by some small buying and July closed unchanged at MSc. I'rovlslons showed strength after a weak opening. Hogs were firm at the yards. In spite of the teamsters' strike, and heavy reductions In ribs stocks Induced good buy ing. Ijird and pork stocks were increased somewhat and caused free offerings at the opening, but support continued good for Some time. July pork sold to 117.30 and closed 24c up at 117.20; July lard closed unchanged at $10.25, and July ribs 6c up at 9.K74. Estimated receipts for tomorrow: "Wheat, 10 cars; com, 200 cars; oats, 90 cars; hogs, 34. ""0 head. The leading futures ranged as follows: Articles. I Open. Hlgh.j Low. Close. Yes'y. Aa hle-h as $7.35 waa paid and several other bunches sold around 47.00 and upward. The com moner grades changed hands rather slowly, and In a good many cases sellers found It a difficult matter to get what they con sidered steady prices. As a general thing, though, the market was slow, but about steady on the Inferior offerings. Most everything waa disposed of in stood season, ine cow market was also ratner slow but about steady on anything desirable, Oood dry lot cows and helfera sold at what looked to be steady prices, and most everything answering to that description was picked up In good season. The quality or tne offerings aa a wnoie was common the same as wss the caae yesterday, and on such kinds the market waa slow, with the tendency of prices downward. Cows showing grass have been going down so rapidly of late that It la difficult to tell what such kinds are worth, but they are easily 60c lower than they were the high time of last week. On tne start packers tried to ouy tne none steady to a shade lower, but they fulled to do tnat and the market Kept improving as the morning advanced and closed a big 6c higher than yesterday s general market. Trading was very active after the first round, so that, although there were 233 cars on sale, practlcully every thing was out of first hands by the middle of the forenoon. Packers all seemed to have very liberal orders, so there were none too mnnv on sale to meet the de mand. The bulk of the good weight hogs sold from $7.10 to $7.30 and medium weights went largely from $7.06 to .w ana tne lighter loads sold from $7.00 down. Rep resentative sales: No. At. Btl. As a result the general market may be quoted steady on good stuff but common kinds were slow sale at any price Packers do not seem to want the Inferior grades and for that reason sellers have a hard time disposing of such kinds at what Ber,,, iu uo ssiisiarinry pneea. wuoiauons ior cupped stocK: Oood to cnoics wethers. 86.7d436.00; fslr to good, IS 60 ' f - cno,ce ewes. fc.oi86.3o: fair to suuu, n.ojio.ou; gooa to cnoice lambs, 16.25 il6.60; fair to g'Mid. tS.6K(i ou.
