(Special.) Mrs. Addlo L. Itlchardson, a handsome young widow, will be placed on trial here tomorrow for her life. Tho woman Is accused of the murder of her mllllonalro husband, Frank W. While Mrs. Itlchardson stands charged with murder, liable to the doath penalty If convicted, no ono who has studied tho case bolleves that she killed her husband. No one, however, doubts that she knows who did kill him, and one or tho chlof motives of her prosecution Is to bring out this Information. Tho arrest In North Ynklmn, Wash., on January 6, of Stewart Fife, tho son of the murdered man's business partner, undor Indictment for tho Itlchardson murder, gives, promise that the mystery surrounding tho tragedy may bo unraveled. Tho first, news of his death eamo to that storo from tho telephone of Mrs. W. M. Kerr, who lived arrows tho street from the nicbardson homo. Mrs. Richardson had gone thero just before, and had told Mrs. Kerr that her husband had been shot, was lying on the floor, nd wanted help. Mrs. Kerr Im mediately telephoned the store. Tills was about 8:15 on the evening of December 21, the night beforo Christmas. Wife Bend Over Doily. When tho news reached the Flfo-Itlch-nrdson storo that Richardson had been shot, Charles Glazier and liruce Stanton went at once to tho house. Beforo they reachod there, however. T. J. Ellis, who was returning from a Christmas tree ex ercise, whither the Richardson children had gone there were threo of them was summoned by Mrs. Kerr. He entored the Richardson homo, and saw Mrs. Richard son bending over the prostrate form ot her husband. Ho asked what was tho matter, nnd she said that he was sick. Soon after Mrs. Kerr, Nora Terhune and the two clerks mentioned were there. From the evidence at hand It was ascer tained that Mr. Richardson had entered tho front door of his. home and had gone Into tho bedroom, tho first door to the right, which was gonerally used as a sitting room. He had taken some flvo or six steps. Then shots wero flred at him from the right nnd rear, and tho bullets struck him In the head, killing him Instantly. The report at the tlmoT was that he had committed sui cide, and the dispatches sent out gavo that ns the cause of death. Explode. Sulclile Theory. Dut within a day or two there was an autopsy, and this exploded tho suicide theory. It was proved by the doctors that tho bullet had been fired by some ono who must have been crouching down In the rear of the dead man, and who had flred from that position. Tho wounds could not have been self-inflicted. The bullet that killed him entored two Inches bolow the right ear and came out above the left ear, it being found near there at tho autopsy. This put an end to the sui cide theory and showed that a bloody tragedy had taken place. At onco the tongue of scandal was busy. All sorts of stories were told of the goings on of the dead man and also ot his wife. Tho coroner's Jury met Tuesday tho shoot ing was Monday and during the next two weeks held several sessions. Finally It adjourned till the widow, who was pros trated with grief, could give her testimony. About throe weeks aftor the shooting 'she did give her testimony, at her home, whllo sho was propped up In bed. Perbap. Victim of Other Man. It waa asserted in Savannah that on the night In question Mrs. Richardson had stayed at home; Her husband had gone out to his store. A Christmas tree was held at the opera houso and he was sup posed to have gone there. On the con trary, he sent the children thore, after conversation with one of them, which may have a bearing on the case, and went hlmsolf to his own home. The talk It that ho expected to And another man there. The theory of the stato Is that he found what ho was looking for, and was killed by the othor roan for bis Investigations. And tho further theory ot the state Is that Mrs. Richardson knows who the other man Is, and Is shielding him, refusing to tell his name, to protect her own good reputa tion. Re all that ns It may, after the coroner heard the widow's testimony, which was sensational to a degree, the verdict was rendered that Richardson had come to his death "by a bullet flred by his wife or by soma one known to her." VaJr Feature, of Inqne.t. There wero ugly features In this Inquest. It was asserted that Mrs. Richardson had left her home, met a man and had gone back.
