The first live bird shoot of the season on tho Omaha ciuo grounus toon piaco yesterday afternoon at ths closo of tho Dupont Gun club tournament. Tho birds are still young, but the bunch brought out yesterday was In good con dition swift flyers, as a rule, leaving the traD the Instant It wa opened. Out of tho lot but two of them were "no birds" nnd one of theso wan caught In the trap. It was 3 oclock before the twenty-live- bird event was cnlled. In this event there wero twenty-three entries nt $10 each. Birds were 20 cents "per" and the purse was divided according to tho Iloso system. Tho foaturo of the event was. tho uni formity of the shooting, until the eighteenth bird there being Ave persons with straights. One of tho best shots of the number was W. D. Den of Brownvllle, a man who forty years ago wa n. hunter in ebrasKa. Mr. Den Is now In his seventy-third year and at the shoot yesterday killed nineteen birds out of twenty, dno of his birds dying out of bounds. The day was Ideal for trno shooting. Several (rood kills were made, notably by nruckcr on his fifteenth bird, a brown one, which flew like a can nonbnll to the right, turning from the left It arose from tho trap. Scott four tcenth bird was an extremely difficult one and n It fell within the bounds tho mau behind tho gun was greeted with cheers. Terry hnd very bad luck with his sev entceath bird. It fell near tho trap nnd declared dead. When he went, un necessarily, to retrieve It the bird flew away and was declared lost. Tho thirteenth bird was a hoodoo, Lewis, Scott. Wilson and Fogg scoring missos this helm tho only bird Charley Lewis missed. After the ninth bird Rossback, who had to leave for Dos Moines, was permiuea to shoot out his score, getting every bird except the nineteenth.
