CATTLE Tho receipts of cattle today
wero fairly liberal, but packers took hold
In good shape, and the market was fairly
active and fully steady all around on good
stuff. The fact that there will be no market
tomorrow made packers moro anxious than
usual for supplies today.
There ware only a few cornfed ateerj
offered today, and those that were on sa.e
brought good strong prices. Tho bitter
grades. In particular, hold readily, and .t
was not long before everything offered was
out of first hands.
The cow market was well supplied today,
there being about fifty cars on sale. Tho
demand, however, seemed to be tqual to
tho occasion, and there was but little
change noticeable from yesterday In the
prices paid.
Dulls, calves anil stags, so far as noticed,
sold In JUHt about yesterday's notches.
There were fully as many stockers and
feeders In the yards today ns wero wanted,
and as a result everything but the choicest
bunches were rather slow sale, thounh not
much change was noticed In the prints
pain, ii was cviacnt, tnougn, tnat buyers
were cautious about getting many on hand
as tomorrow there will bo no market, and
from that time until the close of tho week
trade Is apt to bo light. Common cattle
tooay were almost unsalable nt any price,
as no one would bid on them.
Western beef cattle today of desirable
grades were ratlier scarce, and those an
swering to that description rold readily
nt fully steady prices. Cow stuff also eo.d
steady and the same could be said of stock
ers and feeders of desirable grades, but the
common stuff was very dull. Representa

HOOS The market today could be quoted
IOJjISc higher thnn yesterday and nctlve.
The first hogs did not sell iiultu that high,
08 they went mostly at $6.70 and $6.72W. but
the mnrket soon Irmed up. the bulk selling
Ht right around $6.75. Tho choicer loads
sold at J6.77H and occasionally $6.80 was
paid and from that up to $6.80. Tho less
desirable loads went from $6.?214 down. At
those prices It t as 11 very active market
and tho bulk of tho offerings was out of
first hands in good season. The close of
the market was hardly us active and per
haps a trifle easier than the best time, ow
ing to the fnct that packers had their more
urgent orders filled. Some of tho last ar
rivals for that reason did not sell quite ns
strong.
The average prlco of nil the hogs sold to
day Is at the highest point reached slnco
June 2, 1893. Representative sales:

SHEEP There were not nearly ns many
sheep on sale today ns were offered yes
terdoy. but still there seemed to bo about
enough to mec the demand. Packers,
though, took hold In fairly good shape, con
sidering that Chicago was quoted lOlil&o
lower. At this point Just about steady
prices, were paid for the moro desirable
grades, but the common stuff was very dull.
Thn demand for lumbs today was very
light nnd In fact It was lato before much
of anything was done.
The demnnd for feeders Is holding up In
good shape nnd the market on both' sheep
and lambs may he quoted strong.
