MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 1C (Special Tele
gram.) Young Mr. Gordon was walloped
unmercifully by tho Millers In tho first
game ol iho Berk this afternoon. Tho
llourko twlrler was clearly out of form and
the locals were quick to discover tho fact.
For two Innings thy little fellow pitched
upcrb ball, but In tho third round tho
men behind hlra completely went to pieces,
four airors being made In tho Inning and
Gordon himself committing one of these.
Gordon worked hard In the next, but after
ho had retired tho first two men McCon
ncll opened up on his slants and the next
two men followed suit, tn the fifth the
Omaha crack was given more trouble, being
touched up for four singles and a triple.
Three of these hits were scratches, bunted
toward (Jordon and too slow to handle.
In the ninth ho was again lambasted
for four slnslcs and n triple. With
the exceptions of Oenlns and lluckley
the visitors failed to connect with Wads
worth1!, tenders with any effect. Tho fleld
lir nf Tnmnn unrl Itohi. were features. FIr-
ccmeler's work with the Indicator was not
criticised. Umpire Roach has been re
leased by President Hlckey. Attendance

NEW YORK, Aug. 16. Ideal weather
prevailed at Brighton Beach today and,
although the crowd was small In com
parison with that of yesterday, still thcro
was a fair attendance nnd tho racing was
of a high order. The best race of the
afternoon was that of 3-year-olds nnd It
proved the best contested nnd fastest of
Its class this season, In the first heat
at the finish the leaders were only heads
apart and In the second heat the clip was
such a fast one that three fell by tho way
side, Including the winner of the first.
Ench of the other heats was equally In
teresting and in tho fourth tho finish was
so close that the Judges hesitated for a
long time before deciding It in favor of
Carrie Del, The daughter of Lynne Bel
got tho finishing heat, but only after a
hard struggle with Howell.
The great betting race was tho 2:0S pace
and in tho early pools Dan Patch brought
$1,300 to the same amount on the rest
of the field and one of $000 on the same
terms was recorded. There were seven
starters and it was very evident that Dan
Patch was not driven to win In the first
heat, as he finished well back In fourth
position. It was quite different in the.
second, for he was sent from the start
nnd negotiated the first quarter In 30H,
mndo the half In 1:01 nnd finished his mile
In 2:0IH. after which the race was post
