North Omaha which may cost F. J. Colton
his llfo.
At 9 o'clock yestorday morning Mr. Colton
left his homo nt Forty-fourth and Man
dorson streets for South Omaha, whero he
Is engaged In the commission business. Ho
wns driving a spirited young horse.
When Mr. Colton reached tho corner of
Forty-flccond nnd Mnndoreon streets a
great St. Hcrnard dog attacked his horso.
Tho dog fastoncd his teeth in tho horse's
hind leg and hung on In splto of tho ani
mal's efforts to frco Itself.
Tho horso Anally shook tho dog looso and
plunged mndly down Ames avenue. It
beenmn unmnnagpablo and upset tho buggy,
Mr. Colton wob thrown to tho ground with
grcnt force. Ho wns carried In nn un
conscious condition to his homo and a
physician summoned.
It wns found that both bouos tn bis left
leg wero broken nbovo tho ankle. Two
of his ribs wero nlso broken and penetrated
his lungs, causing Internal hemorrhage.
Dr. W. II. Hanchctt, who cared for tho
Injured man, snya that It Is tmposslblo to
tell how dangerously ho was hurt. At
preaont ho la resting comfortably. Tho
doctor believes thnt tho man will rccovor
