Industrial conditions make It dlltlcult to

business appears of a midsummer variety,
while In the southwest conditions have been
adversely affected by drouth and hot

NKW YORK. July 12. Draditreet's
Financial Review tomorrow will ay
Wljlle last week's market was Irregular
nnu uuu me present weeK nas developed a
declining tendency, accompanied by greater
activity. The adverse news about the corn
crop was one of the leading factors In
creating a feeling of uncertainty It Is
agreed that unless the drouth In Kansas
and other southwestern states Is broken
the total corn crop will likely fall consider
ably below that of the last two years, and
bearlnh Intensts have been prominent to
proclaim that the total failure of corn was
In prospect, with n attendant diminution
of railroad tralllc at the west. The fact
that the wheat yield Is almost of a record
breaking nnturc gave scant attention, al
though Its Importance to the railroads Is
obvious. The main factor of disturbance
In the market was furnished by the low
state of the New York state bank reserve
and the necesiary calling of loans which
this Involved. Although money was runted
nt thu opening of tho week as high as 8 or
V per cent there has been no difficulty as to
loans.

CATTJE There won a good liberal sup
ply of cattle in the yards this morning for
the last end, of the week, but stilt prices
on good stuff did not show much change.
Good to chotcO beef steers showing both
weight and quality were in fairly active
demand and practically everything of that
description was rold at a reasonably early
hour at Juat about Rteody prices as com
pared with yesterday. The commoner
kinds, however, and tho lightweight stuff
wns neglected and sellers found It difficult
to dispose of such grades at even less
prices than they sold the same kinds for
yesterday. Packers) do not se)m to be at
all anxious for common and light stuff and
take It only under protest.
There were only a few cows and helfera
offered today and no western rangers to
test the market on that class of cattle,
flood dry lot cowi and heifers of hoavy
weight wero steady, but light cows or hell
ers were n little- lower and tho tendency
also teemed to be downward on the com
mon, stuff. Packers will take the common
stufTlf they cnn get It at their figures, but
they are not anxious enough for that grado
of cattle to care whether they get tt at all
or not.
nulls, calves and stags brought about
steady prices whero the uunllty was satis
factory, but they were slow nnd weak If
common.
There were not many stockers and feeders
In tho yards this morning and stilt fewer
wre wanted. It cnn be said that thero Is
almost no demand at all, at the present
time for stockers and feeders of any kind
and those that ore coming In. nnd nartleii-
larly the light stockerit, are selling ut what
looks to no extremely low prices. Hepre
