the lowest llgure reached since January 1,

today's stock mnrket covered nn extraor
dinary range of securities. Quotations were
mado for some stocks which have lain nor
mant for many days, and n number of usu
ally very quiet stocks were made nctlve.
Stocks of some small railroads, usually ob
scure by reason of the small amount of
their capital stock, were made compara
tively conspicuous In today's mnrket. Oper
ations were constantly shifting from one
stock to another or from one group to an
other, no ono stock maintaining Its prom
inence during the whole day. It wns a no
ticeable fact nlso that many of the stand
ard stocks, which nrc usually looked to
for the bulk of the trading, wero compara
tively quiescent and moved very narrowly.

day, apparently through manipulation, as
though tho professional operators wero
prompted to correct the nppenranee of sin
gularity In tho market, due to the special
chnractcr of tho trading. Nevertheless, tho
