ing the afternoon for their various homes
and will renew acquaintance with their fam

Charles II. Dietrich, candldato for ;ov

Mr. Dietrich was highly pleased with tho
reception ottered to Roosevelt by Omaha
and remarked that tho governor had made
tho best speech of his trip In apprecia
tion of Ihc welcome. "Governor Roose
velt remarked last night."
Dietrich, " 'If they'll do as much us this
for mo what would they not do for Mt
Kltiley?' "
Mr. Dietrich was the only one of the state
candidates who made the trip lo tho Uluck
Hills, others of the party remaining at

resident of Dakota and has many friends

Mr. Dietrich said, was as great, propor
tionately, as It was at Omaha.
Colonel E. P. Savago of Sargent, candi
date tor lieutenant governor, has been ou
the road continuously for twelve weeks
and has covered almost all of tho southern
and western couuttes. "Nebraeku Is a big
stale," he remarked, "and It Is no small
task to visit Its principal towns, but I
think the cundldates havo Inspected every
community with tho most encouraging re
sults. When there were no meetings I
have spent the time canvassing towns bo

afternoon, after un absence of five weeks.
Ho has found tho outlook very encouraging
at every town visited. "If 50 per cent of
the reported changes In McKlnley'3 favor
are true," bo said, "we will carry tho state
with an abundance of room to spire."

A. C. Abbot, one of the political workers
who brought Thurston county Into being,

bot, "of old-time democrats who have
wearied of their shackles and I know they
can be relied upon. As an example. County
Judge Curry, who was elected twice lo
ofllco by tho fuslontsts, has not paraded
his opinions this year and was accordingly
billed tbo other night to speak at a dem
ocratic meeting. Tho Judge refused, re
marking that ho wan not built that way la
1900. 'It Isn't possible, judge, that you
aro going to voto for McKlnley?' I said.
'All things are possible' replied Judge
Curry, with a smile.
'Then there Is tho case of Pat McGuIre,

nor write,' ho said to me, 'but I can seo

The building of a railroad from Salt
Lako City to Los Angeles now scorns an
absolute certainty. Sonator Clark, the
Montana inulti-mllllonnlro, Is backing an
Independent project having In vlow tho
construction of a railroad between these
two cltlts. The proposition was given an
added impetus Tuesday night when Senator
Clark was banquotod by tho leading rail
road and business men of gait Lake, who
assured him their hearty co-operation and
assistance in the enterprise ho has under'
taken. Among tho guests nt this banquet
was General Manager Dickinson of tho
Union Pacific.
Much Interest Is manifested In the build
ing of this lino by local railroad officials.
Such an extension has long been expected
from the Union Pacific and officials of that
company havo been known to favor the
move, but it Is authoritatively stated that
the Union Pacific has no Interest in tbo
company now heading the project. It Is
admitted that traffic relatlonti will In all
probability bo entirely satisfactory and
extremely close.
Senator Clark has asked from the city
council of Salt Lako the donation of I'io
noer square In that city for use as depot
grounds and his solicitation is reported to
havo been received with .1 favor Indicating
tho granting of tho roquost. Whether or
not auch Is necessarily a condition pre
cedent to tho building of the road Is a
question. Property owners in Bill Lako
whose" possessions are adjacent to Pioneer
square havo endorsed Mr. Clark's request.
