We met by appointment nt Salt Lake
on the morning of July 20. The other
three members of tho expedition preceded

down, and In working our way to a large
pool. It wns about one-eighth of a mile
long and well stocked with good trout. Jim
took first money with one weighing live
pounds. In that pool there were all the

fishing was easy. So far as wc explored
below the fishing was remunerative, but
very dlltieult, as the can) on Is rough nud
wild.
Two days' scouting In the north and west
showed wo were not In tho right plavc. We

sent 1M the horse wrangler to find a
man, a team und a wagon. He returned
with a first-class article In each line. John

on moving. Going south from that camp
for about two miles, we turned toward

Prettier fishing none of our party ever saw

sped on ahead.
Tho second leg made up a four-mile run
before tho wind to a flag off Arnold's Park.
The course was noutheast and with a galo
directly over tho stern the boats went
thrsugh tho water with a rush. Jibs wero
ballooned and the broad mainsails were let
out to catch the full force of the wind.
Tho leaders had rounded the buoy with
their sails on the wrong side for the run
and the Tsyclie, a fragile craft, was
obliged to come clear about', losing a half
minute. Tho Ooldcn Rule, which still
traveled second, Is a more staunch and
seaworthy craft and Captain Mills, hot
ownor, Jibed with perfect safety. Tho
Helen pt Omaha and tho Nymph, prlzowiu
nor, rounded tho first buoy In a dead heut
and each held Its own In the run. Tho
Omaha boat carries no Jib, placing Its dc
pendenoo solely on a huge mainsail.
Tlio uoldon Hule, which Is a compara
tively heavy boit, managed to ollng to the
Psycho's nklrts all the way to tho second
buoy, its hope of victory lying In tho beat
back to tho finish lino off Fort Dodgo point
Tho Helen aud Nymph still traveled lu
company, whllo the rest of tho fleet wan
scattered over the breadth of the lake.
After the Just turn tho yachts took tho
galo almost full over tho bow and ns each
sloop's nose plunged Into tho wave

shower bath. Tho Ooldon Itulo'B task was
a liopelesB one, however, for tho Psyche
still held firmly to Its lead, though Its
