.CHICAGO, A MR. 16.-Vheat was dull nnd
heavy today under liquidation, September
closlnff lo under yesterday. Corn was ner
vous and closed Tic higher. Oats closed n
fhad lower and provisions 20c down for
pork, unchanged for lard and 2',4'35o lower
for ribs.
With n half-filled pit. colorless news and
conjectures and u. certain amount of draggy
liquidation, tho trndo In wheat furnished
n good anthesls for excitement. Tho mar
ket was decidedly flat nnd uninteresting.
Hcptomber opened n shade over yesterday
at 74iffi747c. principally In sympathy with
corn. Liverpool was merely steady for
futures nnd easy for spot, Paris, after u
tho mnrket. but thev met no support. One
Interest threw half a million Into the Pit
nnd tho market slid off. This bundle being
disposed of, wheat In small lots came
tumbling In as a result, nfter being checked
for a moment on the falling off In western
reeelnls. tlnallv sauced to 73H'ii73Mc. The
closo was weak, Heptembcr lc lower nt

wheat and Hour to SfiO.OOO bushels. Now
York reported twenty-seven loads taken for
export. Primary receipts wero 82fi.OO0
bushels, compared with 028.000 last year.
Minneapolis and Duluth reported 212 cars,
nun nst 233 last week and 217 n year ago,
Local receipts amounted to 3ft! cars, 24 of
contract sraiie.
Thero wns more nervousness than ne
llvltv nbntit tho corn market. Country nc,
reptanceH wero light and taken ns a whole
the tone was firm. ICnnsas wns Htlll In
the. grasp of u hot wave, but the small
stocks, tho llcbt accentanccs and the nns
nihility of n squeeze delivery tiny were the
chief considerations nnd provided tho ner

SS'.io. sold to rHc and later, nartlallv In
sympathy with wheat, dropped back to
3STc, nt which tho market closed, c over
yesterday. Ilecelpts were 10S cars. Tho
I'lmli business was smnll nnd New York re
ported only 3C loads taken for shipment.
Oats wero quiet hut steady, helped by tho
corn firmness and tho buying of an In
lluxntlnl trader yesterday. Trndo was
principally In tho way of changing Sep
tember contrnctH to October, ltecelpts
wero 2SI carH. Keptomber sold between ITJ'M

Provisions were dull nnd Irregular, pork

Lard wun In good demand by cash people

CATTLK The supply of cattle waii not
excessive today, but It has been u long
time slnco the marktt has been In as
rotten shape ns It was todav. Packers did
not seem to be anxious for supplies nnd
took this opportunity to pound the mnrket
on nearly ull lines. There wo a good
proportion of enrnftd cattle here today,
nut mere were not many nuncnes or very
good Quality. There were a areod many
western cattle, but they went largely to
feeders.
Tho fnot that half-fat nnd warmed-up
stuff Is not wanted waa well demonstrated
today. Packers bid all the way from 15c
to 25c lower on that class of atock nnd as
a result a good proportion of It went to
feeder buyers. The best grade of corn
cnttle were In some cases nearly steadv,
but ns a rule thoy were close to lOiSflSc
lower. It was a slow, draggy market from
start to lnlsh nnd nt noon there were still
a good many cnttle unsold.
An attempt was also made to buy cow
stuff lower. The best crudes of cows and
heifers brought nearly steady prices, but
tho medium quality were generally n good
dlmo lower and In a good many enses more
than that. Canners were also weak. Hulls,
calves, etc.. sold without material change.
The stocker nnd feeder trade was In
fairly good shape today. Tho cattle show
ing quality and flesh were stronger and
the demnnd wns good. Yard traders sue-
1 eceded in cleaning up what they had on
1 hand yesterday and as a result they were
all looking for more slock today. The
nun. ugnt came, nowover, were no more
than steady and did not movo any too
freely.
Western grass cattlt), such ns were good
enough for the packers, suffered n decline
today, tho same as cornfeds. The market
was very Blow and lilds were considerably
lower nnd nt noon there wero still a eood
many unsold. Cows, with the exception of
tne very nest graars, were lower, uooil
feeders brought a little hotter prices and
tno commoner graues were nnoilt steady.

The feeling on lumbs was good and what
